Ski NC: St Patrick's Day Park Jam

March 17, 2017 - St Patrick's Park Jam at Appalachian Ski Mountain    A fun and festive park session Friday night with activities will be available for all abilities, both skiers and snowboarders.

With cold weather and natural snowfall predicted this week, the last of the NC Ski season should be the best.




Registration will be from 5-6:30 in the Alpine Ski Shop, and the park session will begin around 7 PM. As always, this event is FREE with purchase of a ski ticket.

In the spirit of St Patrick’s Day, riders Must wear green to participate.  This will be the fifth season of the Park Jam, so be ready for some fun features and some AWESOME prizes for standouts.

Last chance to Ski NC for the Season - 3 Ski Areas Still Open with New Snow

NC Ski Slopes, Resorts and Areas  as of March 21, 2016:

Appalachian Ski Mountain - OPEN  Skiing 11 slopes with 6 lifts on a base of  19 - 38 inches with 3 inches new snow. Ski or ride for the rest of the season free with the purchase of 2016-17 season membership. Late Season Rates are in effect. 3/26-27:  Meltdown Games; Projected closing day 4/2

Cataloochee Ski Area is OPEN  Skiing 4 slopes with 3 lifts on a base of  16 - 34 inches, day skiing from mid station only.  Season passes are at the lowest price of the season and are available online now. March is Haywood County School System Employees Month.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort  is OPEN  Skiing 9 slopes with 2 lifts on a base of  8 - 35 inches with 1 inch new snow. March Madness rates in effect.  Spyder 2017 Sampler Sale continues.  The Tubing park and Ice Skating are closed for the season. Sugar will close Wednesday, March 23rd at 4:30pm for the season.

Ski NC: North Carolina Ski Resorts are Open Despite the Unusually Warm Weather

The NC Ski Slopes will be open for Christmas week with skiing, snowboarding, tubing, ice skating and special activities. So far this ski season the weather has been uncooperative with warmer than average temperatures and rain, not snow. But thanks to modern technology and it's snow-making machines, the slopes are open and skiing with Santa, live music and other special events are underway.


Appalachian Ski Mountain   Skiing and snowboarding open on a base of 24 - 36 inches on 8 slopes with 5 lifts. 3 Sessions offered Daily: Noon-2, 2:30-4:30, and every evening 7-9, 12/21 - Spy Optics Session; 12/24 - skiing with Santa; 12/25 Christmas Day Ice Skating; 12/26 Midnight Blast Holiday Nights; 12/31 - New Year's Eve Extravaganza - ski until 11:30 PM with fireworks at midnight..

Beech Mountain Ski Resort   Ski 5 slopes with 4 lifts on a base of 12 - 26 inches.12/31 - New Year's Eve Celebration.  7:30 PM - 1 AM family friendly event at the View Haus, 21+ celebration at the Beech Tree Bar and grille. Live music, skiing, ice skating and more.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort     Night skiing and riding open. Ski on 6 slopes with 3 lifts on a base of 10-26 inches. Tubing and ice skating open. 12/26 - Live performance by The Johnson Brothers; 12/27 - Live performance by Mountain Creek; 12/31 - New Year's Eve Celebration with live music, torch light parade at 11:45 and fireworks at midnight.

Appalachian Ski Mountain Last Weekend for Skiing

NC Ski Slopes in Peak Condition for Weekend Skiing

March 2, 2013 - Only a few weeks are left in the 2013 NC Ski Season and the conditions are great for a weekend of fun skiing, snowboarding tubing or ice skating in the North Carolina Mountains. Natural snow is continuing to flurry making a beautiful "winter wonderland" all weekend.

Appalachian Ski Mountain is open  with 12 slopes and 6 lifts on a base of 52 - 92 inches. Ice skating is open.  BEST CONDITIONS OF THE SEASON.  Recess Wreck Less Tail Jam on 3/2.

Beech Mountain Ski Resort is skiing 15 slopes with 5 lifts on a base of 42 - 82 inches. Ice skating and tubing are open.  March 2, Ryan Ward will play at the Beech Tree Bar & Grille. This Abingdon, VA local will be playing 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM. There is no cover and all ages are welcome.

Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing from the top of the mountain down on 16 trails with 3 aerial lifts and one conveyor lift on a base of 69 -89 inches. Tube World is open on Friday from 4 PM - 10 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 10 Am - 10 PM - this is the LAST WEEKEND of the season for Tube World. The BIGBIGBIG One Day Season Pass Sale is Sunday, March 3.

Sapphire Valley Ski Area - is skiing on both slopes with 2 lifts and a base of 20 - 46 inches. Call 828.743.7663 for a live report.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is
skiing on 20 slopes with 7 lifts on a base of 41 - 91 inches.  Ice skating is open. Tubing is open for all sessions. 2014 Spyder Sample Sale continues and runs through the end of the ski season.   BOSS Hawg's live Bluegrass music plays again this Saturday in the Base Lodge between 4 PM and 6 PM. NASTAR at noon this Saturday and Sunday on Big Red.


Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is open with 9 slopes and 2 lifts on a base of 22 - 31 inches. Ice skating is open.

SK NC for President's Day Weekend

Head for the NC ski slopes this President's Day Holiday weekend - light snow flurries are expected with cold, crisp temperatures and lots of packed and groomed snow for a great weekend of skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Enjoy the best slope conditions of the season this holiday weekend.

Appalachian Ski Mountain is open skiing 12 slopes and 6 lifts on a base of 37 - 67 inches. Ice skating is open. Valentine's Day special ice skating session.  February 17: Special Holiday Midnight Blast Session at Appalachian.    Discounted Season Tickets now available. 

 
Beech Mountain Ski Resort is 100% open skiing and boarding 15 trails with 7 lifts on a base of 26 - 66 inches. Ice skating and tubing are open. Light natural snowfall.  


Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing from the top of the mountain down, including Wild Cat Glade for day skiing only, on 16 trails with 3 aerial lifts and one conveyor lift on a base of 52 -72 inches and a packed powder surface. Tube World is open with 10 lanes of snowtubing fun from 10am until 10pm with 1 3/4 hour sessions available beginning at 10, 12, 2, 4, 6, and 8pm

 
Sapphire Valley Ski Area - is skiing on both slopes with 2 lifts and a base of 20 - 40 inches. Call 828.743.7663 for a live report.  February 16: Great Outhouse Races at Sapphire Valley Ski Area  This annual fun family event is also a fund raiser for the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society.

 

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is open skiing on 19 slopes with 6 lifts on a base of 39 - 81 inches. Tubing and ice skating are open for all sessions. Snowmaking and natural snowfall.  BOSS HAWG plays their North Carolina Bluegrass Saturday  between 4 and 6 pm in the Base Lodge. February 16-17: NASTAR at noon on Big Red   The Tubing Park is open with sessions at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm.

Cataloochee Ski Area Holds Law Enforcement Appreciation Days

February 7 - 8   Law Enforcement Appreciation Days at Cataloochee Ski Area   Cataloochee supports the law enforcement by offering a special reduced rate for law enforcement personnel and their families. Valid ID required. his special package is only $27 per person and includes a 1 1/2 hour lesson, lift ticket for either day, twilight or night skiing and rental equipment. The combined savings is $56 per person over Cataloochee's regular rates.

Located in Maggie Valley NC Cataloochee Ski Area is North Carolina's First Ski Area, and usually the first NC Ski Area to open for the season. Catalochee offers Smoky Mountain Skiing, Riding and Tubing with 16 lighted slopes including the Cat Cage Terrain Park. NC Ski Resorts Ready for a Great Weekend of Winter Sports

Appalachian Ski Mountain is OPEN. Fresh natural snow and skiing on 7 slopes with 5 lifts and a base of 40 - 64 inches.

Beech Mountain Ski Resort is skiing 14 slopes with 7 lifts on a base of 16 - 52 inches. Ice skating and tubing are open.  5 inches of New natural snow

Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing from the top for all three sessions on 16 trails with 4 lifts on a base of 28 - 48 inches with  new natural and made snow.  Tube World is open from 4 PM - 10 PM..

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort hosts SugarFest this Weekend

December 14 - 16    SugarFest, the annual weekend of winter fun at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort offers something for everyone who loves to play in the snow:

Demonstrations of the latest ski and board equipment -
Try out the latest ski and snowboard equipment from Salomon, Volkl, Nordica, Burton, Head, Never Summer, K2, Atomic, Dynastar, Rossignol, Ride, and Line - just about every manufacturer displayed in store showrooms! 9am till 3:30pm, Saturday and Sunday.

Pre-season Ski Clinic for Adults -
1994 Olympic Gold and Silver medalist, Diann Roffe, returns as this year's celebrity coach. 8:30am, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

After Ski Party and Fireworks Display -
Food, drinks and dancing to live bluegrass music by Boss Hawg. 4pm till 7pm, Saturday. Fireworks presented by the Village of Sugar Mountain. 5:45pm, Saturday. 


The Rail Jam -
Come out and watch or throw down with some of the area's best riders in the Ride Rail Jam session. 10am, Sunday.
Paul Wylie Olympic Silver Medalist -
Watch 1992 Olympic Silver medalist Paul Wylie dazzle us with his amazing skating talent. Followed by an on-ice clinic. 7pm Friday.

Meet and Greet Olympic Champions -
Olympic medalists Diann Roffe and Paul Wylie show their medals and sign autographs. 7:30pm, Friday.

SugarFeast -
Hot Chocolate and Whipped Cream Bar: 6pm, Friday. Soup Safari: 11am, Saturday. BBQ and Sweet Tea: 5pm, Saturday. Lots of food and drink to fill you up and enjoy!

President's Day Weekend on the NC Ski Slopes

Feb  17-20,  Calatoochee Ski Area   -  President's Day Weekend at Cataloochee Holiday rates in effect 2/17/12- 2/20/12. Beech Mountain Winterfest this weekend

Jan 8 - 9   Beech Mountain ski Resort in Beech Mountain NC hosts Winterfest Weekend. Ski Getaways in the NC Mountains

Ski NC this weekend!

Cooler mountain temperatures and snow makers worked together to allow the opening of two of Western North Carolina's Ski areas this weekend. Cataloochee Ski Area and Sugar Mountain Resort opened this morning with several inches of new snow. Day ski sessions are available at both areas with limited slopes and lifts operating.

Cataloochee Season-end Summary

Cataloochee Ski Area, Maggie Valley North Carolina. Cataloochee is now closed after a wonderful run for the 2009/2010 season spanning six months and 117 days of Great Skiing and Riding in the Great Smokies.  2009/2010 was the 5th consecutive season of over 100 days of skiing and riding, and first time ever to ski or ride into the second week of April!

Season passes are on sale for the lowest price of this year and next now through August 31. Last Chance Skiing at Cataloochee

April 3-4, 10-11, Cataloochee Ski Area, Maggie Valley North Carolina. Cataloochee will not operate Monday through Friday, March 29 – April 2 but will reopen for day skiing only on Saturday and Sunday, April 3 and 4 and April 10 and 11.
