Sugar Mountain Ski Resort Competition and Celebration

Event: Richard T. Trundy Memorial Sugar Cup Competition
A giant slalom competition for participants with at least an intermediate or above ability level. 100% of all entry fees goes to the American Cancer Society in memory of Sugar Mountain's former Director of Operations, Richard T. Trundy.

Sugar Bear's Birthday Celebration   Join Sugar Mountain Resort's resident mascot, Sugar Bear and his friends for a fun birthday celebration. Sugar Mountain Resort Holds Annual Septuagenian Party

January 6, 2015    Septuagenarian Benefits and Party on Sugar Mountain Resort Anyone 70 and older can qualify for complimentary skiing and riding at Sugar. To obtain your complimentary skiing/riding privileges, visit Sugar Mountain Resort's administration office, located on the second floor of the main lodge building and present a photo ID. 

A season pass will be issued to you for a processing fee of $10. You may also chose to receive a daily ticket at no charge. Every January Sugar recognizes the wonderful contribution seniors make to the sport of skiing by throwing a party. This year's party will be held in the Last Run Lounge.

Last Man Standing - Sugar Mountain stays open this Weekend for last NC Skiing this Season

Sugar Mountain Remains open through the weekend - last channce to ski for the 2013-14 Season. March Madness Rates Apply.

Sunday, March 30th will close out a wonderful winter season at Sugar Mountain (Ski) Resort. BOSS Hawg plays live from 3 - 5 PM, deck food will be grilling, beverages will be flowing and the ceremonial burning of the snow will occur just after 4 PM.

2015 Spyder Sample Sale continues only at Sugar Mountain Sports now until Sunday. Stop by before the shop closes.

Ice Skating and the Tubing Park are closed for the remainder of the ski season.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort Hosts National Winter Trails Day

January 11   National Winter Trails Day - Winter Feels Good   The 19th annual National Winter Trails Day is back at Sugar Mountain Resort. The event offers children and adults new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing for FREE.

Discover the fun and fitness of snowsports. Guided tours are available on the hour beginning at 9 AM. The program includes a forty-five minute tour and snowshoe rental. Adult tours are for 12 years or older. Children's tours are for 8 - 11 years old. Sign up at least 15 minutes prior to your tour time at the Ski/Snowboard School.

SugarFest on Sugar Mountain Annual Kickoff for NC Ski Season

December 13 - 15   SugarFest at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort   1992 Olympic Figure Skating Silver Medalist Paul Wylie will dazzle onlookers with an amazing ice show followed by an on ice skating clinic, a meet and greet session and a chance to hold a real, Olympic silver medal. Consumer ski/snowboard equipment demos, live North Carolina bluegrass music by Boss Hawg, fireworks, appearances by Sweetie and Sugar Bear, and lodging specials are some of the SugarFest events and activities. Keep up your energy at the hot chocolate and whip cream bar, soup safari or North Carolina BBQ.

Sugar Mountain (Ski) Resort is located in the Village of Sugar Mountain on the outskirts of Banner Elk NC.  Sugar Mountain is the largest NC ski area with twenty slopes and trails spread over 115 skiable acres for all levels of skiing and snowboarding. There are seven lifts - including one triple, four doubles and two surface lifts. The 700 foot long tubing lanes are serviced by a Magic Carpet lift, all located on the Sugar Mountain golf course. The Resort includes a 10,000 square foot refrigerated outdoor ice skating rink and a Base Lodge with ticket sales, equipment rentals, cafeterias, lounge, sports shop. Ski and snowboard lessons are available for all ages including the Sugar Bear Ski School for ages 5-10.

SK NC for President's Day Weekend

Head for the NC ski slopes this President's Day Holiday weekend - light snow flurries are expected with cold, crisp temperatures and lots of packed and groomed snow for a great weekend of skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Enjoy the best slope conditions of the season this holiday weekend.

Appalachian Ski Mountain is open skiing 12 slopes and 6 lifts on a base of 37 - 67 inches. Ice skating is open. Valentine's Day special ice skating session.  February 17: Special Holiday Midnight Blast Session at Appalachian.    Discounted Season Tickets now available. 

 
Beech Mountain Ski Resort is 100% open skiing and boarding 15 trails with 7 lifts on a base of 26 - 66 inches. Ice skating and tubing are open. Light natural snowfall.  


Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing from the top of the mountain down, including Wild Cat Glade for day skiing only, on 16 trails with 3 aerial lifts and one conveyor lift on a base of 52 -72 inches and a packed powder surface. Tube World is open with 10 lanes of snowtubing fun from 10am until 10pm with 1 3/4 hour sessions available beginning at 10, 12, 2, 4, 6, and 8pm

 
Sapphire Valley Ski Area - is skiing on both slopes with 2 lifts and a base of 20 - 40 inches. Call 828.743.7663 for a live report.  February 16: Great Outhouse Races at Sapphire Valley Ski Area  This annual fun family event is also a fund raiser for the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society.

 

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is open skiing on 19 slopes with 6 lifts on a base of 39 - 81 inches. Tubing and ice skating are open for all sessions. Snowmaking and natural snowfall.  BOSS HAWG plays their North Carolina Bluegrass Saturday  between 4 and 6 pm in the Base Lodge. February 16-17: NASTAR at noon on Big Red   The Tubing Park is open with sessions at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm.


Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is open with 9 slopes and 2 lifts on a base of 32 - 40 inches. Ice skating is open.

NC Ski Resorts Open for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Celebrate Christmas with family and friends at your favorite NC Ski Resort. Operating hours for Christmas eve and Christmas Day will vary so be sure to check with the individual resort before making plans.

December 24 - Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing on 10 out of 16 slopes, from the top of the quad down, including the Lower Snowbird Trail and Alley Cat with 3 aerial lifts and 2 conveyor lifts operating, on a base of 14-40 inches and a machine worked surface from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.
Cataloochee will be open Christmas Day from 1 PM until 10 PM and Santa will make a special appearance.


December 24 - Beech Mountain Ski Resort holds a Christmas Eve Service at 4:30 at the ice rink. Participants can enjoy a free hot chocolate to celebrate the holiday.

Beech Mountain Resort will close at 430 PM on December 24 and re-open at 12:30 PM on December 25.


December 24 - Appalachian Ski Mountain will be open for skiing and snowboarding and Santa will stop by to join in the fun from 1 PM - 4 PM. 6 slopes and 3 lifts are open on a base of 24-40 inches.

ASM is closed for the Night Session on Christmas Eve, and is closed for both Day and Night skiing on Christmas Day. The Appalachian Ice Arena is open for afternoon sessions only.


December 24 - Sugar Mountain Ski Resort will be open  for skiing and boarding from 9 AM until 4:30 PM and Ice skating and tubing will be open from 10 AM until 2 PM. Sugar will open Christmas Day at noon.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort hosts SugarFest this Weekend

December 14 - 16    SugarFest, the annual weekend of winter fun at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort offers something for everyone who loves to play in the snow:

Demonstrations of the latest ski and board equipment -
Try out the latest ski and snowboard equipment from Salomon, Volkl, Nordica, Burton, Head, Never Summer, K2, Atomic, Dynastar, Rossignol, Ride, and Line - just about every manufacturer displayed in store showrooms! 9am till 3:30pm, Saturday and Sunday.

Pre-season Ski Clinic for Adults -
1994 Olympic Gold and Silver medalist, Diann Roffe, returns as this year's celebrity coach. 8:30am, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

After Ski Party and Fireworks Display -
Food, drinks and dancing to live bluegrass music by Boss Hawg. 4pm till 7pm, Saturday. Fireworks presented by the Village of Sugar Mountain. 5:45pm, Saturday. 


The Rail Jam -
Come out and watch or throw down with some of the area's best riders in the Ride Rail Jam session. 10am, Sunday.
Paul Wylie Olympic Silver Medalist -
Watch 1992 Olympic Silver medalist Paul Wylie dazzle us with his amazing skating talent. Followed by an on-ice clinic. 7pm Friday.

Meet and Greet Olympic Champions -
Olympic medalists Diann Roffe and Paul Wylie show their medals and sign autographs. 7:30pm, Friday.

SugarFeast -
Hot Chocolate and Whipped Cream Bar: 6pm, Friday. Soup Safari: 11am, Saturday. BBQ and Sweet Tea: 5pm, Saturday. Lots of food and drink to fill you up and enjoy!

FREE Snowshoeing at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort

January 7   17th annual National Winter Trails Day at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort. The event offers children and adults new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing for FREE. Discover the fun and fitness of snow sports. Snowshoe rental and guided tours are free. Guided tours are available on a first-come first-serve basis at 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3 pm and 4pm.

The program includes a 45 minute tour and snowshoe rental. Adult tours are for 12 years or older. Children's tours are for 8-11 year olds. Sign up at least 15 minutes prior to your tour time at the Ski/Snowboard School.

New Year's Eve Events: New Year's Celebration on Sugar Mountain Ski Resort

December 31, Sugar Mountain Ski (and golf) Resort, Sugar Mountain Village NC -  A New Year's Celebration Mountain Style featuring live music by The Johnson Brothers. The general public is invited, free of charge, to the torch light parade and fireworks at midnight. A fee as well as reservations for the indoor festivities are required and should be made as early as possible by calling 828-898-4521 x233.

Ski Competition on Sugar Mountain

December 28   USSA Holiday Slalom and Giant Slalom Competition  Slalom and giant slalom races for licensed USSA racers. Juniors 1-6, and Masters. Registration follows USSA procedures. No registrations on race day. 9am start at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort.
