Ski NC: St Patrick's Day Park Jam

March 17, 2017 - St Patrick's Park Jam at Appalachian Ski Mountain    A fun and festive park session Friday night with activities will be available for all abilities, both skiers and snowboarders.

With cold weather and natural snowfall predicted this week, the last of the NC Ski season should be the best.




Registration will be from 5-6:30 in the Alpine Ski Shop, and the park session will begin around 7 PM. As always, this event is FREE with purchase of a ski ticket.

In the spirit of St Patrick’s Day, riders Must wear green to participate.  This will be the fifth season of the Park Jam, so be ready for some fun features and some AWESOME prizes for standouts.

Slope conditions and updates as of March 28, 2016:

Appalachian Ski Mountain - OPEN  Skiing 8 slopes with 6 lifts on a base of  10 - 25 inches. Ski or ride for the rest of the season free with the purchase of 2016-17 season membership. Late Season Rates are in effect. Projected closing day 4/2

Beech Mountain Ski Resort is CLOSED for the 2015-16 Season

Cataloochee Ski Area is CLOSED for the 2015-16 Season

Ski NC: North Carolina Ski Resorts are Open Despite the Unusually Warm Weather

The NC Ski Slopes will be open for Christmas week with skiing, snowboarding, tubing, ice skating and special activities. So far this ski season the weather has been uncooperative with warmer than average temperatures and rain, not snow. But thanks to modern technology and it's snow-making machines, the slopes are open and skiing with Santa, live music and other special events are underway.


Appalachian Ski Mountain   Skiing and snowboarding open on a base of 24 - 36 inches on 8 slopes with 5 lifts. 3 Sessions offered Daily: Noon-2, 2:30-4:30, and every evening 7-9, 12/21 - Spy Optics Session; 12/24 - skiing with Santa; 12/25 Christmas Day Ice Skating; 12/26 Midnight Blast Holiday Nights; 12/31 - New Year's Eve Extravaganza - ski until 11:30 PM with fireworks at midnight..

Beech Mountain Ski Resort   Ski 5 slopes with 4 lifts on a base of 12 - 26 inches.12/31 - New Year's Eve Celebration.  7:30 PM - 1 AM family friendly event at the View Haus, 21+ celebration at the Beech Tree Bar and grille. Live music, skiing, ice skating and more.

Cataloochee Ski Area    
Ski 5 slopes with 3 lifts on a base of  20-30 inches. DAY SKIING ONLY.   12/21-1/16 - Holiday rates in effect. 12/25 - Ride with Santa from 1 PM, open until 10 PM

Sapphire Valley Ski Area is still CLOSED waiting cold weather.  Zip line, rec center, golf and hiking open.
 

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort     Night skiing and riding open. Ski on 6 slopes with 3 lifts on a base of 10-26 inches. Tubing and ice skating open. 12/26 - Live performance by The Johnson Brothers; 12/27 - Live performance by Mountain Creek; 12/31 - New Year's Eve Celebration with live music, torch light parade at 11:45 and fireworks at midnight.

Wolf Ridge Ski Resort      Ski 3 slopes with 2 lifts on a base of 24 inches. Holiday Schedule - day skiing from 9am - 4:30pm and night skiing from 6pm - 10pm.

Meltdown Games at Appalachian Ski Mountain this Weekend

March 28 - 29, 2015   Meltdown Games / Neff Beech Bash    Appalachian Ski Mountain's classic end of the season celebration. Appalachian Ski Mountain Hosts Burton Riglet Park Tour

January 10   Burton Riglet Park Tour   ASM will host 2 stops for the Burton Riglet Park Tour 2013-14, a mobile product demo and mini-snowboard park geared towards introducing children as young as 2 to the sport of snowboarding.

A custom children’s learning terrain area will be provided at the base of ASM and Burton Snowboard experts will be offering a free “introductory terrain park experience” for children ages 2 to 6. Registration is FREE and will be held in the Alpine Ski Shop throughout the day.

There will be 2 main sessions of park orientation in the Riglet Terrain Park – from 10 AM -12 noon, and from 1 PM – 3 PM. The overall experience should last around 30-45 minutes for each child.

Celebrate St Patrick's Day at Appalachian Ski Mountain

March 17 - St Paddy's Day at ASM.  A fun filled day of park shredding and a shot at winning some great prizes from Grenade and the Alpine Ski Shop.

All ages and abilities are encouraged to sign up for this Jam Session, which will be held in the Appaljack Terrain Park on 4 select features. A short jam session (10-15 minutes) will take place on each feature. The Alpine Ski Shop crew will be on site to award prizes for best trick on each individual feature for both skiers and snowboarders.
Registration is FREE and will be held in the Alpine Ski Shop from 10-Noon. The event will begin around 1 PM.

SK NC for President's Day Weekend

Head for the NC ski slopes this President's Day Holiday weekend - light snow flurries are expected with cold, crisp temperatures and lots of packed and groomed snow for a great weekend of skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Enjoy the best slope conditions of the season this holiday weekend.

Appalachian Ski Mountain is open skiing 12 slopes and 6 lifts on a base of 37 - 67 inches. Ice skating is open. Valentine's Day special ice skating session.  February 17: Special Holiday Midnight Blast Session at Appalachian.    Discounted Season Tickets now available. 

 
Beech Mountain Ski Resort is 100% open skiing and boarding 15 trails with 7 lifts on a base of 26 - 66 inches. Ice skating and tubing are open. Light natural snowfall.  


Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing from the top of the mountain down, including Wild Cat Glade for day skiing only, on 16 trails with 3 aerial lifts and one conveyor lift on a base of 52 -72 inches and a packed powder surface. Tube World is open with 10 lanes of snowtubing fun from 10am until 10pm with 1 3/4 hour sessions available beginning at 10, 12, 2, 4, 6, and 8pm

 
Sapphire Valley Ski Area - is skiing on both slopes with 2 lifts and a base of 20 - 40 inches. Call 828.743.7663 for a live report.  February 16: Great Outhouse Races at Sapphire Valley Ski Area  This annual fun family event is also a fund raiser for the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society.

 

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is open skiing on 19 slopes with 6 lifts on a base of 39 - 81 inches. Tubing and ice skating are open for all sessions. Snowmaking and natural snowfall.  BOSS HAWG plays their North Carolina Bluegrass Saturday  between 4 and 6 pm in the Base Lodge. February 16-17: NASTAR at noon on Big Red   The Tubing Park is open with sessions at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm.


Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is open with 9 slopes and 2 lifts on a base of 32 - 40 inches. Ice skating is open.

Valentine's Day Event: Appalachian Ski Mountain Ice Skating

February 14   Valentine's Day at Appalachian Ski Mountain   Celebrate with your Valentine at Appalachian Ice Skating Arena. There will be a special skate session from 7-9 PM complete with Valentine Day decorations, music, a roaring rink side bonfire, and more. What better way to spend your evening together? Appalachian will also offer special couple’s photography at the Ice Arena from Joshua Easterling Photography during this session.

NC Ski Resorts Ready for a Great Weekend of Winter Sports

A great weekend for NC Skiing! The NC slopes are sparkling with fresh fallen snow along with lots of snowmaking in the cooler temperatures. Grab your skis, snowboards, tubes or skates (or rent them onsite) and head for the hills and  the best ski conditions of the season.

Appalachian Ski Mountain is OPEN. Fresh natural snow and skiing on 7 slopes with 5 lifts and a base of 40 - 64 inches.

Beech Mountain Ski Resort is skiing 14 slopes with 7 lifts on a base of 16 - 52 inches. Ice skating and tubing are open.  5 inches of New natural snow

Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing from the top for all three sessions on 16 trails with 4 lifts on a base of 28 - 48 inches with  new natural and made snow.  Tube World is open from 4 PM - 10 PM..

Sapphire Valley Ski Area - .Open with 2 slopes and 2 lifts on a base of 28 - 48 inches.  Call 828.743.7663 for a live report.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is open skiing on 17 slopes with 6 lifts on a base of 35 - 65 inches. Tubing and ice skating are open for all sessions. 8 inches new natural snow.

Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is OPEN skiing 9 slopes with 2 lifts on a base of 34 - 50 inches. The terrain Park is closed but tubing is open

NC Ski Resorts Open for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Celebrate Christmas with family and friends at your favorite NC Ski Resort. Operating hours for Christmas eve and Christmas Day will vary so be sure to check with the individual resort before making plans.

December 24 - Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing on 10 out of 16 slopes, from the top of the quad down, including the Lower Snowbird Trail and Alley Cat with 3 aerial lifts and 2 conveyor lifts operating, on a base of 14-40 inches and a machine worked surface from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.
Cataloochee will be open Christmas Day from 1 PM until 10 PM and Santa will make a special appearance.


December 24 - Beech Mountain Ski Resort holds a Christmas Eve Service at 4:30 at the ice rink. Participants can enjoy a free hot chocolate to celebrate the holiday.

Beech Mountain Resort will close at 430 PM on December 24 and re-open at 12:30 PM on December 25.


December 24 - Appalachian Ski Mountain will be open for skiing and snowboarding and Santa will stop by to join in the fun from 1 PM - 4 PM. 6 slopes and 3 lifts are open on a base of 24-40 inches.

ASM is closed for the Night Session on Christmas Eve, and is closed for both Day and Night skiing on Christmas Day. The Appalachian Ice Arena is open for afternoon sessions only.


December 24 - Sugar Mountain Ski Resort will be open  for skiing and boarding from 9 AM until 4:30 PM and Ice skating and tubing will be open from 10 AM until 2 PM. Sugar will open Christmas Day at noon.

Appalachian Trail Bridge Festival this Weekend in Bryson City

April 6-7   Appalachian Trail Bridge Festival    Enjoy trail-steeped speakers sharing their experiences, a vendor village staffed by industry representatives, skills clinics, as well as some great product giveaways and door prizes and live music nightly. The event is held annually at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC)

The Appalachian Trail crosses the Nantahala along NOC's Founder's Bridge,  at  Wesser Campus - a popular spot for hikers to rest up for the challenging climb ahead.  Jennifer Pharr Davis, current record-holder for fastest through hike of the Trail, will be one of the event presenters.

In addition to speakers, this year's schedule includes some must-take Wilderness Survival skills clinics, an edible plants hike with a local botanist and certified outdoor leader, and an exciting packraft demo and head-to-head race from Alpacka Rafts on the Nantahala River.

Ladies Park Night Tonight at Appalachian Ski Mountain

January 7  Ladies Park Night At Appalachian Ski Mountain a special terrain park area is constructed with features specifically designed for learning and progression that will be open to ladies only. Women of all ages and abilities are welcome, for both ski and snowboard, to get together and ride in a laid-back environment among friends. Appalachian Ski Mountain is located in Blowing Rock NC.
