Cataloochee Ski Area Hosts Crescent Ski Council Race Series

January 25 - 26   Crescent Ski Council Race Series   Cataloochee Ski Area is hosting its first race weekend with the Crescent Ski Council Race Series this Saturday and Sunday. CSC Racing holds a series of races throughout the southeast every season attracting an average of 150 of the Southeast's best ski racers and their families each weekend.

Upper Omigosh and Alley Cat will be open ONLY TO RACERS on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Alley Cat will also be closed Sunday afternoon for NASTAR public racing. Take advantage of this opportunity to come out and watch this exciting race and also try your hand at NASTAR.

Cataloochee Ski Area Offers Special $29 Learn to Ski and Snowboard Package

Cataloochee Ski Area is now offering a special $29 Learn to Ski and Snowboard Package available only at www.liftopia.com every non-holiday Monday through Friday in January. This special $29 package can ONLY be purchased at liftopia.com and includes a day or twilight lift ticket, full set of ski or snowboard rental and 1 ½ hour lesson any non-holiday Monday through Friday for the month of January.

Located in Maggie Valley NC,  Cataloochee is North Carolina's First Ski Area, and usually the first NC Ski Area to open for the season. Catalochee offers Smoky Mountain Skiing, Riding and Tubing with 16 lighted slopes including the Cat Cage Terrain Park. Cataloochee Ski Area and Sugar Mountain Resort Open for the 2013-14 Season

November 15, 2013 - Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley is this year the second of the NC Ski Slopes to open for the season. Skiing will be one session only, day skiing from 8:30am - 4:30pm,  on 6 slopes from midstation down with 2 lifts and 1 conveyor lift operating on a 18-36" base and machine groomed surface.

Lift tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for juniors age 5-12 with this reduced continues rate through Sunday. Regular rental rates will apply.

Early season operating hours are in effect:  9 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday;  8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Saturday and Sunday
. A one run refund will be offered. Purchase your lift ticket and make one run and if you are not satisfied after your first run within the first 30 minutes, your money will be refunded.

Sugar Mountain (Ski) Resort began snowmaking with the cool front on Sunday evening and officially opened on November 13, 2013
- making it the first NC Slopes to open for this season. The Resort currently offers 2 slopes with 1 lift on a base of 8 - 32 inches. Ice skating is open for sessions at 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 4 PM and 6 PM.

Last Chance for NC Skiing this Week

Although four of the six NC Ski Resorts and areas ar now closed for the 2012-13 season, there are still a few days left to ski NC as Cataloochee and Sugar Mountain. Fresh natural snow is still falling making conditions for the final days the best in 10 years.

Cataloochee Ski Area
will be skiing on 14 trails with 3  lifts on a base of 40 - 60 inches with NEW NATURAL SNOW. Late season rates in effect along with late season schedules: day skiing only from 9 AM until 4:30 PM Monday through Friday,  and 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Saturday and Sunday until the end of the season on MARCH 29..  Tube World is CLOSED for the season.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is
skiing on 19 slopes with 4 lifts on a base of 25 - 70 inches. Winter weather ha returned and  is predicted to remain through mid week. Six to ten inches of snow is expected through Wednesday. Expect Sugar's slopes to stay open at least through Wednesday, March 27th, maybe longerMarch Madness in effect: 25% off lift ticket, lesson and rental rates EVERYDAY! Tubing is open for sessions from 10 AM - 8 PM. Ice Skating is closed for the season.  2014 Spyder Sample Sale continues through the end of the ski season.

Cataloochee Ski Area Holds Law Enforcement Appreciation Days

February 7 - 8   Law Enforcement Appreciation Days at Cataloochee Ski Area   Cataloochee supports the law enforcement by offering a special reduced rate for law enforcement personnel and their families. Valid ID required. his special package is only $27 per person and includes a 1 1/2 hour lesson, lift ticket for either day, twilight or night skiing and rental equipment. The combined savings is $56 per person over Cataloochee's regular rates.

NC Ski Resorts Ready for a Great Weekend of Winter Sports

A great weekend for NC Skiing! The NC slopes are sparkling with fresh fallen snow along with lots of snowmaking in the cooler temperatures. Grab your skis, snowboards, tubes or skates (or rent them onsite) and head for the hills and  the best ski conditions of the season.

Appalachian Ski Mountain is OPEN. Fresh natural snow and skiing on 7 slopes with 5 lifts and a base of 40 - 64 inches.

Beech Mountain Ski Resort is skiing 14 slopes with 7 lifts on a base of 16 - 52 inches. Ice skating and tubing are open.  5 inches of New natural snow

Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing from the top for all three sessions on 16 trails with 4 lifts on a base of 28 - 48 inches with  new natural and made snow.  Tube World is open from 4 PM - 10 PM..

Sapphire Valley Ski Area - .Open with 2 slopes and 2 lifts on a base of 28 - 48 inches.  Call 828.743.7663 for a live report.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is open skiing on 17 slopes with 6 lifts on a base of 35 - 65 inches. Tubing and ice skating are open for all sessions. 8 inches new natural snow.

Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is OPEN skiing 9 slopes with 2 lifts on a base of 34 - 50 inches. The terrain Park is closed but tubing is open

Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend at Cataloochee Ski Area

January 18-2   Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend at Cataloochee Ski Area    Holiday rates will be in effect. In addition to the regular twilight and night skiing schedule of Tuesday through Saturday evenings, there will also be twilight and night skiing on Sunday, January 20.

NC Ski Resorts Open for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Celebrate Christmas with family and friends at your favorite NC Ski Resort. Operating hours for Christmas eve and Christmas Day will vary so be sure to check with the individual resort before making plans.

December 24 - Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing on 10 out of 16 slopes, from the top of the quad down, including the Lower Snowbird Trail and Alley Cat with 3 aerial lifts and 2 conveyor lifts operating, on a base of 14-40 inches and a machine worked surface from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.
Cataloochee will be open Christmas Day from 1 PM until 10 PM and Santa will make a special appearance.


December 24 - Beech Mountain Ski Resort holds a Christmas Eve Service at 4:30 at the ice rink. Participants can enjoy a free hot chocolate to celebrate the holiday.

Beech Mountain Resort will close at 430 PM on December 24 and re-open at 12:30 PM on December 25.


December 24 - Appalachian Ski Mountain will be open for skiing and snowboarding and Santa will stop by to join in the fun from 1 PM - 4 PM. 6 slopes and 3 lifts are open on a base of 24-40 inches.

ASM is closed for the Night Session on Christmas Eve, and is closed for both Day and Night skiing on Christmas Day. The Appalachian Ice Arena is open for afternoon sessions only.


December 24 - Sugar Mountain Ski Resort will be open  for skiing and boarding from 9 AM until 4:30 PM and Ice skating and tubing will be open from 10 AM until 2 PM. Sugar will open Christmas Day at noon.

Last Chance for Discount Cataloochee Ski Tickets

If you missed the BIG one day pass sale at Cataloochee Ski Area, you have a last chance to save on your seasonal pass.  Pass pricing for the upcoming season 2012-2013 is at its lowest rate now through March 31 2012.  Pricing will increase on April 1.

Cataloochee has averaged 119 days of skiing and riding per season over the last seven years.  This kind of statistic  would be more commonly  expected from areas further north or west, not from one of the Southernmost ski areas in the country.  During the 2011-12 season lasting 110 days,  Cataloochee  weekday/night passholders had the opportunity to ski or ride with for a total of 74 days and 83 nights.

You can purchase passes online or call in and order over the phone with a credit card.  It's that simple.  Don't miss out on your chance to save on enjoying all the mountain has to offer this winter.

easonal ski and snowboard rentals are also  available for order at Cataloochee for the upcoming season.  Renting is simple and all equipment is ready to go when you pick up beginning November 1.  A refundable $250 deposit is required and all you have to do is return the equipment prior to April 1, 2013,  to get your deposit back.  It's a simple and convenient way to get new equipment each season or to outfit growing kids. 

Seasonal rental prices are:
Adult Ski Rental       $179 (Includes skis, boots and poles)
Junior Ski Rental      $139 (Includes skis, boots and poles)
Snowboard Rental    $189 (Includes boots and board)

January 20-21    Military Appreciation Days at Cataloochee Ski Area   A special package is only $25 per person and includes a 1 1/2 hour lesson, lift ticket for either day, twilight or night skiing and rental equipment, The combined savings is $56 per person over Cataloochee's regular rates. Package price is good for day skiing from 9am until 4:30pm, twilight skiing from 1pm until 10pm, or night skiing from 6pm until 10pm. And if rental and lessons are not required, the lift ticket price will be $15 per person.
