July 5-6   Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend   The Performance recounts the famous 1860's lovers' triangle tale that became one of the nation's first highly publicized crimes of passion. Performed at the Fort Hamby Amphitheater, the drama brings to life the romance, jealousy, and mystery surrounding the murder of Laura Foster.

In this visually stunning portrayal, audience members are treated to the sights and sounds of frontier NC-from the cannon blast of the Civil War to the fanciful tune of a "mollasy boilin' " dance.

"Evita" Opens this Week at The Flat Rock Playhouse

June 5 - 30   The Flat Rock Playhouse Presents Evita    Evita tells Eva Peron's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored."

The Flat Rock Theatre Presents "The Odd Couple"

 April 3 - 21  The Flat Rock Theatre Presents "The Odd Couple"    Compulsive neat freak Felix Unger is thrown out of his house by his divorce-bound wife. He wanders aimlessly through the streets of New York before gravitating to the apartment of his best friend, incorrigibly sloppy sportswriter Oscar Madison. Oscar, himself in the process of a divorce, invites Felix to move in with him. Within a few days, this mismatched pair find themselves on the verge of mutual murder.

December 21-22   Re-discovering Christmas   at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. This is a fun evening of professional theatre and down home Christmas music in an intimate theatre setting in downtown Black Mountain.

Jim and Carol Shores of Acts of Renewal Theatre Co. bring a series of vignettes that welcome young and old to rediscover the hilarity, the mystery, the wonder of Christmas. The evening concludes with a finale about an irrepressible Jamaican wiseman who retells the Christmas story like you've never heard it before. Music by the Holly Hoppers will bring rousing fun to an already great night.

Emotionally raw and provocative, RED is a searing portrait of an artist's ambition and vulnerability as he tries to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting.

Nunsense Opens this week at the Flat Rock Playhouse

May 17- June 10   Nunsense   A musical comedy that is downright "habit-forming!” Winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Off-Broadway Musical with its original New York production, this hilarious international hit continues to play to sold-out audiences of all faiths around the world.  May 3 - 20      Flat Rock Playhouse presents "Our Show of Shows"   From 1950 to 1954, millions of viewers tuned their television sets to NBC for a 90-minute sketch-comedy show starring Sid Caesar, Carl Reiner, Howard Morris and Imogene Coca. The writers were Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Michael Stewart and Mel Tolkin and the show was called "Your Show of Shows."

The show changed television forever and influenced every television comedy that came after it. Flat Rock Playhouse is pleased to revisit some of the greatest comedy skits ever written as the classic television series comes to life in this all-new stage production. July 12 - 16 Grab your funnybone and head for Asheville's  5th Annual Laugh your Asheville Off.  This year’s festival will feature over 50 comics in 3 days. The annual event has grown into one of the largest stand-up comedy festivals in the Southeast. The festival returns to locations in downtown Asheville,  including the Diana Wortham Theatre.

The  kick off Tuesday evening is a benefit, Local Laughs, for the brother wolf rescue performed at The Magnetic Field, 372 Depot Street .Wednesday evening the Launch Party showcases Comedy Central;s Kyle Kinane at The Highland Brewing Company. Get a complete schedule here.

A Christmas Carol at The Parkway Playhouse in Burnsville

See the "Classic Christmas Carol" December 16 - 18 presented by Burnsville's Parkway Playhouse.  The combination of faithful storytelling, a score of classic Christmas music, and spellbinding stage magic bring to life the familiar story of a miserly sinner given one last chance at redemption by some persuasive ghosts. Ebeneezer Scrooge goes through a miraculous transformation as he views with new eyes his past, present, and future.
