"Fly" Opens this Week at the Flat Rock Playhouse Telling the Story of the Tuskegee Airmen

September 10 - 27, 2015 The Flat Rock Playhouse   presents "Fly".  An important and inspiring story about the experiences  and challenges of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American flyers in the U.S. military during World War II. 

Hailing from Chicago, Harlem, rural Iowa, and the Caribbean each arrive at boot camp with a dream to serve their country as combat fighter pilots. But they find that they must first combat racism and prejudice in the very military they have volunteered to serve.

Flat Rock Playhouse Presents "Crimes of the Heart" at the Hendersonville Playhouse Downtown

August 20 - September 6, 2015    Flat Rock Playhouse   presents "Crimes of the Heart" at the Playhouse Downtown  Meet Meg, Babe and Lenny, the Magrath sisters. Just your typical southern sisters who reconvene in their hometown of Hazlehurst, Mississippi at the home of their Old Grandaddy. Oh, but this is not your typical family reunion. Babe has just shot her abusive husband. And their mother has hung herself…and the beloved family cat. What unfolds is a beautifully rendered, often heartbreaking, often hilarious story of love, compassion and sisterhood.

"Evita" Opens this Week at The Flat Rock Playhouse

June 5 - 30   The Flat Rock Playhouse Presents Evita    Evita tells Eva Peron's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored."

Performances will be Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 pm; matinees Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown presents "Cotton Patch Gospel"

April 24 - May 19   Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown presents "Cotton Patch Gospel"   Kicking off the 2013 Downtown series is "Cotton Patch Gospel". Called the Greatest Story Ever Retold, this bluegrass musical is a modern retelling of the Gospel in the setting of rural Georgia with songs that are the final, and perhaps best work of Harry Chapin (best known for the number-one hit, “Cat’s in the Cradle”).

Herod is recreated as Governor of Georgia, Caiaphas as Dr. Caiaphas, a member of a board of politicians, and Pilate as a local governor who sentences Jesus and sends him to Lee Correctional Institute. Witness a unique retelling of the story of Jesus, brought to life through bluegrass music and imaginative storytelling.

He wanders aimlessly through the streets of New York before gravitating to the apartment of his best friend, incorrigibly sloppy sportswriter Oscar Madison. Oscar, himself in the process of a divorce, invites Felix to move in with him. Within a few days, this mismatched pair find themselves on the verge of mutual murder.

Nunsense Opens this week at the Flat Rock Playhouse

May 17- June 10   Nunsense   A musical comedy that is downright "habit-forming!” Winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Off-Broadway Musical with its original New York production, this hilarious international hit continues to play to sold-out audiences of all faiths around the world. The Little Sisters of Hoboken are having a fundraiser to bury the sisters accidentally poisoned by the convent cook.

 May 3 - 20      Flat Rock Playhouse presents "Our Show of Shows"   From 1950 to 1954, millions of viewers tuned their television sets to NBC for a 90-minute sketch-comedy show starring Sid Caesar, Carl Reiner, Howard Morris and Imogene Coca. The writers were Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Michael Stewart and Mel Tolkin and the show was called "Your Show of Shows."

The show changed television forever and influenced every television comedy that came after it. Flat Rock Playhouse is pleased to revisit some of the greatest comedy skits ever written as the classic television series comes to life in this all-new stage production.
