Mountain Spirits: Wine Tastings and Beer Tasting and Events for Memorial Day Weekend

SPECIAL SPECIAL EVENTS: 
May 27 - June 4, 2016    Asheville Beer Week   This Annual event offers eight full days of celebrating all things beer in Asheville NC. The week of events will include tastings, dinners, beer education, keynote speakers, and other beer-related fun (and nonsense). Asheville Beer Week culminates with Asheville’s Beer City Festival where dozens of breweries (and plenty of live music) are slated to appear on Roger McGuire Green. 


May 28, 2016    16th Annual NC Wine Festival   Gates open and tastings begin at noon and last until 6:30 PM. Enjoy tasting from over 25 North Carolina Wineries. Once your glass is filled groove to the music from live bands, grab a bite from our food vendors and enjoy browsing the exhibitor’s tents for treasures.

May 28, 2016    Beer City Festival   Downtown Asheville's annual craft beer festival, this Beer City Fest brings the best local and regional breweries from Asheville and surrounding areas together for a great day of beer and music. This year's event features more than 30 breweries with 70+ local beers and local live music performers.  1 PM - 6 PM.

May 28, 2016    Papertown Brew and Que  (Canton)  Papertown’s first-ever Craft Beer and BBQ Festival. this is not your ordinary Brisket & Brew Event. This festival will showcase the talents of many local craft brewers as well as the flavors of southern BBQ at its best. Enjoy live Mountain Music, kids activities and much more. This is a family-friendly event and tickets are available for non-drinkers, too. Admission: $35 for those 21 years and older, which includes a brewers taster glass; $8 for non-drinkers. Free 12-years and under.   

May 28 - 29, 2016  Lee Linsey Tall Poppy Tour and Memorial Veterans Special at South Creek Winery   Lee is an International Artist who has released her 3rd CD and brings her quirky blend of folk, pop and country twist to South Creek. As a salute to  past  present Military Veterans receive 2 for 1 tastings and 10% off all bottle purchases. Music is provided to South Creek customers at no admission fee. Tasting room is open at 11 AM, Music starts at 1 PM. 


May 26, 2016 at  Heinzelmannchen Brewery, 545 Mill Street in Sylva NC - Live Original Music by Henry Wong.  6 PM - 8 PM - Start you Memorial Day Weekend off right.  NEW- Chocolate and Beer Paring: The Brewery is offering a four chocolate, four beer sample pairing on a regular basis beginning this week.  For $11, plus tax stop by and savor Baxley's Chocolates and Heinzelmannchen beer!

Beerito Mexican Lager - "Beerito is a light bodied, amber Mexican lager brewed with premium German and coloRADo sourced craft malts and featuring a crisp accent from noble hops."
Old Chub Scotch Style Ale - "This jaw-dropping Scottish strong ale is brewed with bodacious amounts of malted barley and specialty grains, and a dash of beechwood-smoked malt. Old Chub features semi-sweet flavors of cocoa and coffee, and a wee-bit of smoke. A head-turning treat for malt heads and folks who think they don't dig dark beer."
Pinner Session IPA- "This drinkable IPA uses several varieties of hops to target the ever-evolving flavor. With tropical fruits, citrus juices, pineapple and spice berry up front in the aroma and flavor, the biscuit & toasted bread at the back balance out all the hops and make a great finish to go on to your next can of PINNER.
Gubna Imperial IPA - "Each year GUBNA is reinvented with a new hop bill."
Hot Box Coffee Porter - "This porter (30 IBUs) is based on malt flavors of roasted nuts, crème brulee, cocoa, and caramel, extracted from English and German roasted and caramel malts. Hotbox Roasters then crashes the party and infuses potent, cold-extracted coffee from Burundi and Ethiopian beans and deals out flavors and aromas of dark plums, chocolate, and hints of blueberry."


May 27, 2016 from 5:30 - 8 PM at Maggie B's Wine and Specialty Store, 10 C South Main Street in Weaverville NC:   Grilling Wines.   Stock up for your Memorial Day celebration.  Mark your calendar for Maggie B's 9th Anniversary Celebration including Buncombe Turnpike playing amazing blue grass music, plus they willl be grilling brats and serving up a low country boil. There will be  local kegs and free wine tastings.  Plus, Scribbles the Clown will be painting faces during the event.
Maggie B's will be pouring wines that are light and juicy without being sweet, perfectly paired with anything you're grilling for the holiday.

Round Peak Vineyard,   765 Round Peak Church Road in Mount Airy NC - Tasting Room Open Daily: Sun–Thurs 12 pm–5 pm;  Fri 12 pm–8 pm;  Sat 11 am–6 pm (and until Sunset Jun–Aug); By appt. other times. The Tasting Room is also a cozy place to host your private event. With space for 20-40 people depending on seating, and the ability to cater any type of food or appetizers desired, we can create the atmosphere you'd like. Available any time except the normal business hours that the Tasting Room is open.
 
Shelton Vineyards, 286 Cabernet Lane in Dobson NC. Regular tour and tasting is offered daily departing every half hour.
This includes a guided tour of the 33,000 square-foot winery with an overview of the winemaking process, a tasting of five wines, and a souvenir wine glass. $5 per person.  Retail hours are Monday-Saturday 10 AN.-6 PM., and Sunday 12 PM - 6 PM (Daylight Savings Time); Monday-Saturday 10 AM-5 PM and Sunday 12 PM-5 PM (Standard Time). Tours and tastings are offered daily. The winery is open every day of the year except New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. A variety of additional special tours are available - reservations are required, see the website for details.

South Creek Vineyard and Winery, 2240 South Creek Road, Nebo, NC  Open Wednesdays through Saturdays
from 11 AM to 5 PM, Sundays from 1 PM to 5 PM through the year until January 1st. Tastings include the glass & are $6, $7 or $10 depending on the wines you choose. Music events are rain or shine and provided to South Creek Customers at no admission fee, unless it is a stated ticketed event.


Wedge Brewing Company, 125 B Roberts St. in the River Arts District, Asheville NC. Micro-brewery regular Hours:
Monday to Thursday 4:00 PM till 10:00 PM, Friday 3:00 PM till 10:00 PM. Live music on select dates and outdoor cinema.

Mountain Spirits: Valentine Weekend Dinner at the WineSeller

February 16 - Dinner and live jazz at the Classic WineSeller, 20 Church Street in Waynesville NC. The music and dinner begin at 7 PM with Jesse Junior vocals, Bill Bares on the piano and Zack Page playing bass.  The cost is $34.99 per person and reservations are required - 828-452-6000.

Highlands Hosts Collective Food and Wine Festival this Week

May 17-19   Collective Food Wine and Food Festival Wine lovers from all over come together to celebrate the annual Collective Spirits wine festival. Indulge in private wine dinners, grand wine tastings, a gala dinner, live and silent auctions, a culinary sampling by local chefs, and symposiums conducted by leading wine specialists. All proceeds benefit exhibition and education programs of The Bascom, a nonprofit center for the visual arts.

During Collective Spirits 2012, The Bascom will showcase a number of exhibitions including Chicks: It’s All Gone to the Birds; Green Art – Tracy Kirchmann Celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Studio Glass Movement; and an outdoor installation of ceramics by Alex Matisse.

Italian Wine Dinner at the Blue Note Grille

April 26 - The Blue Note Grille in Historic Downtown Hendersonville will be offering an Italian Wine Dinner. The meet and Greet begins at 6:30 PM and includes Robert Brazewell of Tryon Distributing. Dinner begins at 7 PM with:

Blue Ridge Parkway 75 Event: Budbreak Wine Festival

April 29 - May 1, Mount Airy North Carolina, Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 229. A unique experience, with emphasis on wine education, including food and wine pairing, fine art exhibits, great music, and for those participating, a wine judging contest. The event is co-sponsored by the Mount Airy Rotary Club in cooperation with the Mount Airy Downtown Business Association, and The Mount Airy News. Find details here...
 Wine and Dinner Pairings are featured on Thursday and Friday at The Harvest Grill at Shelton Vineyards, Twenty One and Main, and Cross Creek Country Club.
