Highlands NC Annual Village Square Craft Show

May 26-27 Village Square Craft Show Annual Memorial Day Weekend art and crafts show in downtown Highlands. The show features fine art and whimsical folk art, plus high-quality crafts such as fine wood work, metal work, quilts, birdhouses, and twig furniture. As usual, you will find one-of-a-kind baskets, pottery, and jewelry. The show has over 65 vendors.

The Opening Night Gala will be at the Highlands Country Club on Thursday night November 8th, on Friday and Saturday enjoy different events and Dinners throughout Town and the Sip and Stroll will be Saturday which will take you throughout town and into the unique shops.

Mountains in Bloom Garden Festival this Weekend in Highlands NC

July 13 - 15 14th Annual Mountains in Bloom Garden Festival Over 1,000 garden and nature lovers from across the US come together to celebrate. The event features a tour of majestic mountain gardens in the Ravenel community, a flower show that includes flower arrangement, horticulture and photography divisions, an exclusive Benefactor tour of the Southern Highlands Reserve and the always elegant Benefactor Party.

Proceeds support The Bascom, a nonprofit visual arts center. Friday-Saturday July 13th -14th Flower Show, Garden Tours, and Luncheon. Sunday July 15th Southern Highlands Reserve Tour and Benefactor Party--For Benefactor Donors Only.

Highlands Hosts Collective Food and Wine Festival this Week

May 17-19 Collective Food Wine and Food Festival Wine lovers from all over come together to celebrate the annual Collective Spirits wine festival. Indulge in private wine dinners, grand wine tastings, a gala dinner, live and silent auctions, a culinary sampling by local chefs, and symposiums conducted by leading wine specialists. All proceeds benefit exhibition and education programs of The Bascom, a nonprofit center for the visual arts.

During Collective Spirits 2012, The Bascom will showcase a number of exhibitions including Chicks: It’s All Gone to the Birds; Green Art – Tracy Kirchmann Celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Studio Glass Movement; and an outdoor installation of ceramics by Alex Matisse.

The Blue Ridge Parkway at 469 miles long is the nation's longest scenic rural parkway. Now 70 years old it is administered by the National Park Service and host to approximately 20 million visits annually. Chimney Rock Park is named for a 500 million-year-old giant granite monolith overlooking Hickory Nut Gorge. Visitors are awed by the breathtaking view that spreads 1200 vertical feet beneath them and 75 miles across the Carolinas. The now state owned park encompasses 1,000 acres offers the best of the mountains in one place with spectacular 75-mile views, hiking trails for all ages, a 404-foot waterfall, a variety of special events and much more. The National Scenic Byways Program is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration. The program is a grass-roots collaborative effort established to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads throughout the United States. Since 1992, the National Scenic Byways Program has provided funding for almost 1500 state and nationally designated byway projects in 48 states. The U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes certain roads as All-American Roads or National Scenic Byways based on one or more archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and scenic qualities.

Tsali Recreation Area is an outdoors lover's paradise. Probably the most popular features of Tsali Recreation Area are the 39 miles of trails suited for mountain bikers and horse-back riders, as well as hikers. The 4-loop system offers a variety of landscapes. You can climb 1-foot wide rugged paths or travel flat, well-beaten roads. The four trails--Right, Left, Mouse Branch, and Thompson Loops--meander through mixed pine and hardwoods on a peninsula stretching into Fontana Lake. Near Bryson City NC and Robbinsville NC.
