Event:    Fontana Trestle Train Ft. BBQ & Brews   The Barbeque and Brews Dinner Trains feature locally hand-crafted beer from Heinzelmannchen Brewery and Nantahala Brewing Company. plus slow-cooked authentic North Carolina Barbeque. The train departs Bryson City Depot at 7 PM and travels through the scenic mountain countryside to the Fontana Trestle for a spectacular sunset. Event:    Hot Doggett 100 Bike Bike Ride   6th Annual Hot Doggett 100 and Devil's Fork Metric Century Ride with the same challenging 100 mile and 100 kilometer closed loop courses as last year. The 100 mile course covers some of the most scenic and lightly traveled roads anywhere in western North Carolina. If you are seeking a challenge, you will find it in the 9,600 feet of ascension on this course.

Event:    18th Annual New Year's Eve Possum Drop   Ring in the New Year with a Miss Possum contest, live bluegrass music, the Little Brasstown Church Choir, the Blessings, homemade cider and lots of good clean fun.

Event:    New Year's Eve Party at Beech Mountain Resort   Live music, drink specials, and even midnight ice skating. The party is held In the Beech Tree Bar & Grill, which is open until 1:30 AM for the event. Highlands Hosts Collective Food and Wine Festival this Week

May 17-19   Collective Food Wine and Food Festival Wine lovers from all over come together to celebrate the annual Collective Spirits wine festival. Indulge in private wine dinners, grand wine tastings, a gala dinner, live and silent auctions, a culinary sampling by local chefs, and symposiums conducted by leading wine specialists. All proceeds benefit exhibition and education programs of The Bascom, a nonprofit center for the visual arts.

During Collective Spirits 2012, The Bascom will showcase a number of exhibitions including Chicks: It’s All Gone to the Birds; Green Art – Tracy Kirchmann Celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Studio Glass Movement; and an outdoor installation of ceramics by Alex Matisse.
