Last Weekend for the Tweetsie Railroad Ghost Train

October 26 - 27  Tweetsie Railroad Ghost Train  makes it final runs for the 2012 season this weekend.  All aboard for the 23rd spooktacular season of Tweetsie Railroad's Ghost Train® Halloween Festival and the High Country's most popular Halloween celebration.

Dinosaur Train at the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

July 20-22, 27-29 and August 4-6   All Aboard Dinosaur Train™  based on the popular PBS-Kid television series, created by Jim Henson. This adventure filled train ride is packed full with music, stories, entertainment, and activities. PLUS all children will receive their very own Nature Trackers Club guidebook and membership card. Valentine's Day Events: Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Valentine Express

February 11, 11 AM, Bryson City NC - The Peanuts Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown Excursion and Valentine Sweetheart Train, a special event.  The train departs at 11 AM and will travel along the Tuckasegee River to Dillsboro NC for a 1 ½ layover. Special Valentine's activities include crafts, photo ops, snacks and more.  This is a fun-filled outing for the whole family.

NC Fall LEaf Season Event: The Great Pumpkin Patch Express

October 7-9     PeanutsTM - The Great Pumpkin Patch Express in Bryson City NC.   A favorite annual event at the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. This "Peanuts" themed excursion departs from the Bryson City Train Depot.

Kids of all ages can don their Halloween costumes and join Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy on an adventure to
the Pumpkin Patch. Each child may select their own pumpkin from The Great Pumpkin Patch to take home. Additional activities include: campfire marshmallows, a coloring station, temporary tattoos, trick or treating, bouncy house, hayrides and live musical entertainment.

Hop Aboard the Great Pumpkin Patch Express

All Aboard for the 5th Annual PEANUTS™ Pumpkin Patch Express. Returning to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad for 2011! The excursions, which are themed after Charles M. Schulz's classic story "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," will be departing from the Bryson City Depot.

Guests will hear a narration of Schulz's "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" as the train travels to the Pumpkin Patch. Upon arrival, passengers will be greeted and have a photo opportunity with Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Snoopy. Activities to enjoy at the Great Pumpkin Patch will include: campfire marshmallows, a coloring station, temporary tattoos, trick-or-treating, bouncy house, giant slide, hayrides and live musical entertainment. Complimentary Train Ride for First Responders and Service Personnel

September 11, 2011 the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad will provide a complimentary ticket for Service personnel (active and nonactive) police officers, firefighters and first responders. 4th of July Event: Fireworks Extravaganza at Tweetsie Railroad

July 4  Fireworks Extravaganza at Tweetsie Railroad.  Celebrate Independence Day - and Tweetsie’s 54th birthday! - with family-friendly fun and engine #12 at Tweetsie Railroad Theme Park.  Watch as the High Country sky is illuminated with a dazzling fireworks display, and this year promises to be better than ever.

The park will remain open until 9:00 p.m. with an optional Chuck Wagon Dinner in the Hacienda from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m.

Parking is $5 per vehicle. Golden Rail Season Pass holders park for free! 
This is typically the most well-attended and most spectacular fireworks display in the High Country.  Tweetsie Railroad is located at 300 Tweetsie Railroad Lane in Blowing Rock NC.

Summer Days and Summer Nights Events at Tweetsie Railroad

Enjoy a visit from Dora the Explorer™ and her cousin Go, Diego, Go!™ June 24-26, and don’t miss Tweetsie at twilight with the theme park's new event, Cool Summer Nights, July 2, 9 and 16. The park will stay open until 9:00 PM and feature rides, live music, a chuck wagon dinner and even a special train show.

Tweetsie Railroad's  July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza will bring people from near and far to celebrate Independence Day, and  families are invited to join Barney™ as he sings and dances to his favorite songs July 15-17. Guests can truly experience the ‘dog days of summer’ when the amazing, gravity-defying K-9s in Flight Frisbee® Dogs jump, flip, catch and dive July 23-31.

June 18: March of Dimes Day at Tweetsie. 
North Carolina’s first theme park and the March of Dimes are teaming up this Saturday, June 18 for a special day at Tweetsie in support of healthier lives for babies and their families. One dollar from each paid admission that day will be donated to the March of Dimes.  Direct donations can be made through the March of Dimes/Tweetsie Railroad partner web site at marchforbabies.org/tweetsie.

Tweetsie Railroad Special Event: Thomas the Tank

From June 3 - 12, Thomas the Tank joins Tweetsie Railroad. Kids of all ages will love a Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine  and a train ride through the Blue Ridge Mountains. There will be photo opportunities with Sir Topham Hatt, live music plus storytelling and activities in the Imagination Station.

The annual event with Thomas the Tank is one of the most popular NC Mountain family fun events and a great way to kick off the summer. Tickets often sell-out, so early purchase is advised. Buy tickets online here.

NC Mountains Valentine Event: Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown Excursion and Valentine Sweetheart Special Event Train

The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is pleased to announce the PEANUTS™ Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown Excursion and Valentine Sweetheart Special Event Train.  The "Lover-ly Locomotive will depart the Bryson City NC historic train depot on Saturday, February 12th, at 11:00am and travel along the Tuckasegee River to Dillsboro for a 1 ½ layover.

Passengers will be joined by Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy for old fashioned Valentine’s Day fun based on the popular television episode titled by the same name. Festivities for  Be My Valentine passengers include listening to the narrated story, great photo ops and creating a Valentine for that special someone. Standard adult tickets are $49.00 and children two and up are $29.00. Upgrade to the fantastic Family First Class package! Choose one of the four first class luncheon options and receive a gift amenity and souvenir tumbler with unlimited soda, coffee or tea drink refill. Adult ticket prices $92, Child (2-12) $54, Infants (2 and under) $20.

This Saturday night enjoy a local holiday tradition - caroling, photos with Santa, and the lighting of our town Christmas tree. Starts at 7 pm at Bryson City Bicycles parking lot on Everett Street.
Enjoy the magical lights of Whittier, NC (Exit 72 off Hwy 19/74). It doubles as the North Pole with the little church and homes lit up from top to bottom.
