Annual Herb Festival this Weekend in Old Fort NC

April 11 - 12, 2015 11th Annual Herb Festival Savor the smell and taste of fresh-grown herbs with a selection including several unique medicinal, cooking and ornamental herbs. The herbal combination planters include the Scarborough Fair Combo, the Indoor Herbs Combo, and several other attractive and useful assortments.

Browse over 25 talented local artisan's booths, including handcrafted herbal soaps and herbal blends, handmade jewelry, woodcraft and handcrafted furniture, paintings, photography and more.

Food vendors offer delicious treats ranging from vegetarian quesadillas to gourmet sausages and hand-squeezed drinks (you can also sample Painters own homemade pesto). Talented local musicians will be performing all weekend.

The event is held at Painters Greenhouse, approximately 5 miles south of I-40 at exit 73 near Old Fort NC.

Davidson's Fort Hosts Revolutionary Way Days

March 21 - 22, 2015 Revolutionary War Days at Davidson's Fort This event showcases the reconstructed militia fort of 1776 that guarded North Carolina's frontier during the American War for Independence. Civilians, merchants and militia demonstrate life in the colonial era.

Davidson's Fort is located at Lackey Town Road in Old Fort NC . Admission: $5 per person, $2 per child 6-10 and under 6 free.

NC Gold Festival Today in Old Fort

June 1-2 NC Gold Festival An annual event featuring gold exhibits, gold mining techniques and demonstrations, treasure and scavenger hunts, geo-caching and gold panning. The events also includes a variety of vendors including arts and crafts and raffles.

The Festival is hosted by the nonprofit North Carolina Gold Foundation to promote, educate, preserve and celebrate the state's gold heritage. The Festival is held at the Mountain Heritage Museum in downtown Old Fort NC.

Stop by to chat with the creators of these one-of-a-kind items while you shop for yourself, family or friends. Something for everyone including baskets, paintings, woodwork, wreaths, candles and live demonstrations. Sponsored by Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League.

The Blue Ridge Parkway at 469 miles long is the nation's longest scenic rural parkway. It connects the Shenandoah Valley National Park with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee. Chimney Rock Park is named for a 500 million-year-old giant granite monolith overlooking Hickory Nut Gorge. Visitors are awed by the breathtaking view that spreads 1200 vertical feet beneath them and 75 miles across the Carolinas. The National Scenic Byways Program is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration. The program is a grass-roots collaborative effort established to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads throughout the United States. Since 1992, the National Scenic Byways Program has provided funding for almost 1500 state and nationally designated byway projects in 48 states. The U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes certain roads as All-American Roads or National Scenic Byways based on one or more archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and scenic qualities.

Tsali Recreation Area is an outdoors lover's paradise. Probably the most popular features of Tsali Recreation Area are the 39 miles of trails suited for mountain bikers and horse-back riders, as well as hikers. The 4-loop system offers a variety of landscapes. You can climb 1-foot wide rugged paths or travel flat, well-beaten roads. The four trails--Right, Left, Mouse Branch, and Thompson Loops--meander through mixed pine and hardwoods on a peninsula stretching into Fontana Lake. Near Bryson City NC and Robbinsville NC.
