Memorial Day Weekend Event: White Squirrel Festival in Brevard NC


May 27 - 29, 2016      White Squirrel Festival   Go Nuts in Downtown Brevard, "Where Music Meets the Mountains". A full weekend of free, live music and nutty family fun with a special evening concert Friday night by Town Mountain. 

The Festival includes more than a dozen free concerts. This year's event promises to be even bigger and better than ever - with the Memorial Day Parade, the Annual Squirrel Box Derby, white squirrel guided tours, white squirrel exhibit, children’s village and white squirrel photo contest.

Also back this year is the Annual 5K/10K White Squirrel Race/Competitive Walk, along with a 1-mile kids' fun run. Find out why the White Squirrel Festival was voted "Best Spring Music Festival in Western North Carolina". 

This event is held in beautiful downtown Brevard NC.

Memorial Day Weekend Events: Maggie Valley Spring Rally

May 27 - 29, 2016     Maggie Valley Spring Rally- Mopars & Hawgs - A Rain or Shine Event with Custom Bikes, Rat Rods, Rat Bikes  and Live Music.

Enjoy the weekend's events including concerts,  bike games, the bike show and trike show, light show,  on site hot air balloon rides, used bike corral, mechanical bull, tours and a variety of vendors. Purchase event T-shirts and enjoy a Special Guest and more.

This event is held at the Maggie Valley NC Festival Grounds.

Memorial Day Weekend at NOC

Head for the hills this Memorial Day Weekend and the Nantahala Outfoor Center to kick off the summer season with a real SPLASH!  Enjoy the excitement of a whitewater adventure on on rapids from class II to V. A variety of trips and locations are offered including two different trips on the pristine French Broad river complete with a picnic lunch.

If you're looking for a multi-adventure package, try the "Ropes and Rafts" combining a fast run down the gorgeous Nantahala River, a riverside lunch and the 40 foot high Zip Line Adventure Park. The day ends with a race down the dual 550' Wesser Zips.

Experienced rafters love the challenges of Section IV of the Chattooga River including the Seven-Foot Falls, Raven’s Chute Rapid and the famous Five Falls, where five Class IV-V rapids unfold in only a 1/3 of a river mile.

Special Memorial Day Weekend activities:

May 24, 4:30 PM:  Merrell Adventure Dash, open to all ages. Navigate a series of obstacles and choose form a 5K Dash or 1 K Fun Rum along the river. $20 entry fee. Register online or at the event.

May 23,24 at 6PM: Live Concert Series featuring Paul Constantine on Friday and Blue and the Barn Cats on Saturday. NOC's concert Series continues all summer and is held at at Big Wesser BBQ + Brew, an open-air venue west of Asheville.

May 24: Big Wesser BBQ + Brew   Memorial Beer Tasting with Railhouse Brewery.

May 24-25:   NRC Family Whitewater Weekend  For ages 8 and up. A variety of events and competitions are included, register online and get complete details.

Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC)  offers white water river rafting trips, kayak and canoe instruction and mountain biking. NOC is a a complete outdoor destination with  restaurants and a pub, a fully-stocked Outfitter's Store, the Wesser General Store and Fly Shop and the Nantahala Welcome Center.The Nantahala River  location is  13077 Hwy. 19 W in Bryson City, NC.

Memorial Weekend: Celebrate Mountain Heritage at Fontana

May 25   3rd Annual "A Time to Remember" A celebration to honor the people of Western North Carolina who gave up their homes, land and way of life so that World War II could be won. Hosted by Fontana Village Resort, The Proctor Revival Organization and GREAT (Graham Revitalization Economic Action Team).

As a Time to Remember month concludes, join the celebration at the dance hall at Fontana Village Resort on May 25 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM and and bring the 50's to life. The "Asheville Gentlemen" a 7 piece Swing Band will be performing. They will be joined by the Kennesaw State University Swing Dance Association on Sat. night. Join in the fun by taking part in beginners swing dance instruction both Fri. and Sat. prior to the Asheville Gentlemen. Friday's schedule will be from 7:00pm to 9:00pm with instruction and CDs.

May 24 - 25   Swain County Heritage Festival   This two day festival has it all. Friday night entertainment is loaded with local talent featuring an emphasis on old time gospel music. Saturday entertainment is classic country and bluegrass, clogging and Indian hoop dancing. In addition to music, the festival offers local arts and crafts, food, games for the kids, a log-sawing contest and fun for the whole family.

The event takes place form 6 PM - 9 PM Friday and 10 AM to 6:30 PM on Saturday at Riverfront Park on Mitchell Street in Bryson City NC.

Memorial Day Weekend Event: Military Special FREE Admission to Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum

May 25-27     Wheels Through Time Memorial Day Celebration   This annual event is held to honor members of the American Military and their service to the United States of America. All those who are currently enlisted or who have served are admitted to Wheels Through Time free and provided with a complimentary two-year membership to the museum. Memorial Day Weekend Events: NC heritage at the Weaverville Roots Festival

May 26-28       Weaverville Roots Festival   A three-day celebration of the culture and heritage of Weaverville, NC. On May 26 Heritage Day will fill the downtown and park areas with music, demonstrations, food and other entertainment. On  May 27 the town will celebrate its Tree City USA status with Arbor Day activities and ceremonies in the nature park, plus entertain visitors with gospel music and other sacred music. On Memorial Day, May 28th, the town roots will be celebrated by honoring those heroes who gave their lives for freedom as well as those heroes who live in the area. There will also be a commemorative ceremony at Lake Louise.

Memorial Day Weekend Event: Miner's Heritage Day

May 26    Miner's Heritage Day  The event features a treasure hunt, hikes, live music and mine tours. Kids tour the mines free of charge. Free treasure hunt featuring minerals and crystals as prizes. Black Light Mine Tour in the Bon Ami Mine at 9 PM. Admission for that tour: $15/adults; $10/seniors and children, free.
