July 20 Winefest - The Annual River House Winefest includes a Winefest wine glass, tastings from all the wineries, lots of music, and, of course, great River House food. The highlight of the festival will be wine samplings from nine North Carolina wineries: Biltmore, Brushy Mountain, Grassy Creek, Hanover Park, McRitchie, RagApple Lassie, RayLen and Round Peak.
The musical lineup features: Tim and Debbie Yates of Acoustic Heritage (bluegrass), Clay Lundsford Jazz Band, Martha Bassett Band (sultry Southern swing) and The Ardmores (soft rock and blues).

Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival Starts Today in Blowing Rock

April 11-15 Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival Enjoy wine tastings, seminars, cooking classes, wine makers' dinner and much more. New this year is the Grillin' and Chillin' event. The Grand Tasting event is downtown and special guest this year is Teresa Guidice!
This year's events include:
April 11 Fire on the Rocks Chef's Challenge: Experience the best culinary show you've ever tasted! The Chef's Challenge is a battle between the area's best-known chefs. Diners judged the preliminary events and now at the finals too! Dine on 6 amazing courses at the finale. Finale dinner will be held at Crippen's Restaurant. Reservations are required. 828.295.3487.
April 12, 6 PM Uncork The Festival: A Taste of Ethiopia and South Africa, A Benefit for Wine to Water at Crestwood Resort and Spa. Take a tour of Ethiopian and South African with sights and flavors, using the expertise of area businesses Climbing the Walls, Events by Elizabeth Ashley, The Gamekeeper, The Table at Crestwood and Wine to Water in a sublime collaboration of floral design, decor, food and wine. The atmosphere of Crestwood will be transformed with the colors, tastes and aromas of these culturally distinct regions. Palates will come alive with the rich and bold flavors of an array of tapas-style food and complimentary tastings of 6 different wines, and senses will be heightened as guests journey through these two countries without leaving the High Country. Guests will be greeted with a complimentary Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival souvenir wine glass. Music by Scott Smith will complete the evening's festivities.

April 13 Grillin' and Chillin': New this year, The Blue Ridge Mountain Club offers a true taste of North Carolina. North Carolina is famous for its barbeque, and here you can get it in the most authentic way. A whole hog pig pickin', barbequed chicken and all the fixins, including banana pudding. And to go with this fabulous meal, enjoy a selection of North Carolina wines, North Carolina craft-made beers and music by some of the area's best artists. Your ticket price will include tastings of the North Carolina wines and craft beers. Full glasses and bottles of wine will be available for purchase from the vendors.
April 14, 2-6 PM - The Grand Tasting: The Grand Tasting is the centerpiece of the Blue Ridge Wine & Food Festival. Located in the heart of Downtown Blowing Rock under the main tent. The tasting showcases an assortment of wines from North Carolina wineries as well as from vineyards around the globe. Find new favorites among international, domestic and NC vintages.
April 14, 7 PM VIP Charity Wine Gala: The Gala celebrates the Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival in style. Area wine lovers, foodies and dignitaries alike will gather at the elegant Broyhill Furniture Showroom for an entertainment-packed evening including a performance by the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival and music by Old Gold Jazz Trio of the Wake Forest University School of Music.

Feb 25-26 Third Annual Yadkin Winter Reds Event sponsored by the Town of Yadkinville and Yadkin County Tourism Development Authorities. October 25, 6:30 PM The Purple Onion, 16 Main Street in Saluda NC. A Rhone wine tasting with seven wine selections from the northern and southern Rhone valley will be offered along with foods typical of the region's cuisine but featuring ingredients from some of our favorite local farms. The wines to be tasting are not only exceptionally good values but pair easily with a variety of foods which makes them a great choice for the approaching holiday season. Mountain Spirits: Wine and Beer this week, September 22
In a proclamation praising North Carolina’s wine and grape industry, Gov. Bev Perdue has declared September 2011 as Wine Appreciation Month in North Carolina. Governor Perdue urges consumers, restaurants and retailers to help support our growing wine industry by promoting North Carolina wines throughout September. So come on by and visit any (or all) of these shops, vineyards and breweries to celebrate Wine Appreciate Month!
September 23, 4 PM - 7 PM at Table Wine, 1550 Hendersonville Road, Suite 102, AAA Travel Center in Asheville NC. Fundraisr for Annimal Compassion Network - $5 gets you a taste of 5 wines that give back. The mission of the Annimal Compassion Network is to help end the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets in our community by finding lifelong, stable and loving homes for companion animals in need. you will have the chance to sample the 6 wines that give back all year long! Every time we sell a bottle of one of these wines, we give 10% of the proceeds back to Animal Compassion Network. So far, we've raised over $600 for this awesome community organization, and we hope that we can keep helping them to help the small creatures of the world. Benefit Wine Tasting for Friends of Madison County Animals - a jewelry sale while we will be pouring different “animal friendly” wines to taste. Maggie B’s will also be donating 10% of the proceeds from the wine tasting to this wonderful organization.

Oh, and it comes in a stubby, 11-oz bottle like your grandpa used to buy. Session Black - Short, Dark, and Drinkable and four time Gold Medal Winner including the 2009 GABF; Full Sail Amber Ale - Amber is a sweet, malty, medium-bodied ale with a spicy,floral hop finish.; Full Sail IPA - has a full, malty body and there’s even a hint of fresh citrus to it. And you probably will too; Honoro Vera Garnacha 2010- From the maker's of one of our favorite Spanish reds, "Juan Gil," comes this great value Garnacha; Tarima Monastrell - Also know as Mourvedre in France, Monastrell is a grape we are seeing more and more out of Spain.
