Greening Up the Mountains NC Spring Festival

April 27  Greening up the Mountains  This annual spring festival, named for the way the “spring green” creeps up the mountainsides, is a celebration of the local economy, sustainability, and traditional heritage crafts. Three full music stages will feature local bands, children’s performances, and heritage dance, along with the annual Youth Talent Show and more. 

Storytelling, face painting, an inflatable slide, the recycled materials Superhero Costume Contest, volunteer projects and more add to the fun events in this festival. Come out to participate or watch the Annual Greening Up the Mountains 5K Run. Greening Up the Mountains also celebrates the greening of the environment, with information about sustainable living and presentations by environmental groups.

The Festival is held on on Main and Mill Streets in historic downtown Sylva NC  from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Do Tell StoryFest in Hendersonville this Weekend

February 11-12   Do Tell StoryFest   3rd annual Festival Held at the Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown Theatre, listen to stories from rhymes to folk tales to history to modern personal stories from the region's best performers.

The Saturday festival concert features renown storyteller and singer Michael Reno Harrell.Harrell is an award winning songwriter, as well as a veteran storyteller and entertainer from the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Michael's  stories are familiar and razor sharp with a point. His brand of entertainment appeals to a diverse audience.

Other StoryFest participants include:

David Novak is a remarkable speaker with a background in theatre arts including Shakespeare, clowning, creative dramatics, playwriting, and directing.
Sherry Lovett has been a storyteller for twelve years starting when she was a middle school teacher.Karen-Eve is an international storyteller, Henderson County native,  former General Manager of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and is the creator and director of Do Tell festival.
Vixi Jil  known as Sister Silly Goose has been reading, writing, and telling ancient Celtic faerie tales, as well as old timey mountain Jack tales for over 27 years.Candler Willis is a multi-talented renaissance man who time shifts between the 19th and 21st century!Elena Miller a winner of the prestigious national Freeman Tilden Award, began performing at age 12 and continues on to today.
Ronnie Pepper has 22 years experience working as an educator of young children and is now Director of Henderson County Head Start Centers.
Gwenda LedBetter has taught and told stories for fifty years, beginning her work in Asheville’s  Pack Library and in "Tales from the Red Rocker "on WLOS-TV.

Asheville's Folk Art Center hosts 16th Tellebration

Nov 20    Tellabration! at the Folk Art Center   Experience an International celebration when thousands of people around the world gather in small towns and big cities to celebrate storytelling. The Asheville Storytelling Circle hosts the local event, now in its 16th year, held the last weekend before Thanksgiving at the Folk Art Center.

The outstanding  line-up  showcases accomplished storytellers, and features the well-known Charleston, SC, performer, Tim Lowry, renowned for telling stories "Of the People, By the People, and For the People."   Asheville Storytelling Circle members: Sherry Lovett, Nancy Reeder, Ed Sacco will also tell their tales and Wayne Sims will serve as Emcee.

 

General Admission is $5 with proceeds enabling area storytelling events and activities.  Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are available at the door on the day of the event.
