Brushy Mountain Apple Jam in North Wilkesboro

October 5 Brushy Mountain Apple Jam This event is one of the largest one-day arts and crafts festivals in the Southeast and features a large variety of arts and crafts, food and entertainment. Events begin at 8 AM and continue until 5 PM. There will be live entertainment at the corner of 10th and Main Streets. Open jam. Sponsored annually by the Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club and held on the 1st Saturday of October since 1978.

Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame Induction in North WIlkesboro

June 8, 5:30 - 8:30 PM Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame Induction The evening's performers include: Cindy Baucom, David Holt, Tut Taylor, David Johnson, and Eric Ellis. George Hamilton IV will be attending. Regional Musician and Sideman - DeWitt "Snuffy" Jenkins; Recording Industry - David Holt; Gospel Music - The Chuckwagon Gang; Promoter, Organizer, and Special Contributor - Cindy Baucom; Nationally Known Artist from the Region - George Hamilton IV; Pioneer Artist - Charlie Poole; Master Musician and Tradition Bearer - Robert "Tut" Taylor; Honorary Inductee - William Oliver Swofford.

The event is held at Stone Center for Performing Arts in North Wilkesboro NC.

Car Show Today in North Wilkesboro

January 12 Cruisers in Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro Antiques, Street Rods, Classics Cars, Pro Street, Muscle Cars, and Motorcycles are all welcome. The event includes foor prizes and entertainment. Admision is FREE. Bring your lawn chair. Come show your classic or just watch and enjoy all of the cars and trucks on display.

There will also be Concessions, 50/50 Drawings, Silent Auctions, and Door Prizes at each cruise-in. Revenue from cruise-ins is donated back to worthy causes in Wilkes County.

NC Holiday Events: Light Up Downtown in North Wilkesboro

November 16 Light Up Downtown - Annually, Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro kicks off the Holiday Season with the lighting ceremony soon after dusk. Main Street is filled with the lights, joys, smells, and sounds of Christmas.

Santa will be in the lobby of Wilkes Towers ready for photos with the little ones. Local community groups take part in in providing hayrides, live entertainment, food, crafts, kids activities and more. 5:30 - 9 PM on Main Street in downtown.

There will be three stages throughout the downtown with entertainment. The first stage will be on 9th Street, the second stage will be on 10th Street at the Brushy Mountain Ruritan Park, and the third stage will be at Melody Square on 6th Street.

Lawn Mower Races Today in North Wilkesboro

August 11 AMRA Mow Down - Lawn Mower Races Mow Down is popular with fans of all ages. Suped-up riding lawn mowers from 5 to 18 horsepower motors. Since 2005, during the summer months, Rotarians play host to lawnmower racing.

Sanctioned by the Alleghany Mower Racing Association (AMRA), oval track racing on dirt reminds many of the beginning of stock car racing in Wilkes County and the birth of NASCAR. Crowds have grown from a few hundred to gathering of thousands on several Saturday nights from June through September.

Mother's Day Weekend Events: Wilkesboro area events

May 11-12 Mother's Day Book Sale Another great sale brought offered by the Wilkes Friends of the Library. Hours are 9 AM - 7 PM Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM Saturday. The Sale will be held in the Old Key City Office Building located at 503 C Street, North Wilkesboro NC (corner of 5th and C Street).

May 11, 3 PM - 5 PM at Michael's Jewelry, 900 N Main Street, North Wilkesboro NC. Flossie Johnson Book Signing Ms Johnson will be promoting her latest cookbook, "Save The Fork", a collection of her favorite desserts. Great Mother's Day Gift! All cookbook proceeds will benefit Hospice of Wilkes.

May 12, 10 AM - 5 PM Day of Wine and Roses Savor the small of the roses in full bloom. Enjoy a glass of Raffaldini wine as you take a complimentary tour of the gardens surrounding the Villa Raffaldini. This event will be held rain or shine. Ronda, NC.

May 12 3rd Annual Wilkes Amazing Race The Race combines mental and physical challenges with a host of fun and wacky team competitions. Teams of two will enjoy a county-wide adventure, whiles visiting many of the tourist destinations, with the hopes of winning the ultimate prize! The day ends with a fun social gathering of food and entertainment. Proceeds go to the Samaritan's Christian Ministry of Wilkes. Their mission is "to feed the hungry of Wilkes County."

The National Scenic Byways Program is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration. The program is a grass-roots collaborative effort established to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads throughout the United States. Since 1992, the National Scenic Byways Program has provided funding for almost 1500 state and nationally designated byway projects in 48 states. The U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes certain roads as All-American Roads or National Scenic Byways based on one or more archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and scenic qualities.

Tsali Recreation Area is an outdoors lover's paradise. Probably the most popular features of Tsali Recreation Area are the 39 miles of trails suited for mountain bikers and horse-back riders, as well as hikers. The 4-loop system offers a variety of landscapes. You can climb 1-foot wide rugged paths or travel flat, well-beaten roads. The four trails--Right, Left, Mouse Branch, and Thompson Loops--meander through mixed pine and hardwoods on a peninsula stretching into Fontana Lake. Near Bryson City NC and Robbinsville NC.
