Carolina Mountains Literary Festival This Weekend in Burnsville NC

September  10-12, 2015     Carolina Mountains Literary Festival   This two day festival, held at several venues in downtown Burnsville, provides a unique, intimate setting for readers and regional authors to mingle.

Enjoy a fascinating array of talks and workshops that include everything from listening to readings of recently published books to learning how to pen a memorable memoir. 

Pre-registration, along with a $25 fee is required for the following workshops: Story from Thin Air (fiction), Making Meaning from our Memories, From Concept to Publishing: Learning the steps for Writing a Memoir, and to Dwell in Possibility (poetry). 

Admission: General sessions free, 3-hour workshops $25 and banquet on Friday September 5 is $30

NC Mountains-to-Sea Trail New Book Published

Danny Bernstein, hiking guide author and 2011 MST completer, has just published The Mountains-to-Sea Trail Across North Carolina, a valuable and entertaining new book about the MST. The book, published by History Press, introduces the reader to the spectacular, historic and quirky elements of the North Carolina landscape that hikers see on the trail.

If you're in the Asheville or Raleigh area, come out for one of the two "book launches" to hear Danny read from the book, answer questions about the trail and meet Kate Dixon, Executive Director of FMST: 

• Tuesday, March 5th, 6 pm - Diamond Brand Outdoors, 2623 Hendersonville Road, Arden (Diamond Brand will provide anyone in attendance who becomes a member of FMST with a $20 gift card. Refreshments will be provided and attendees can participate in a raffle also benefiting FMST. The event is free and open to the public.)
• Friday, April 5th, 7 pm - Quail Ridge Books, 3522 Wade Avenue, Raleigh (co-sponsored with Great Outdoor Provision Co. and Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail)

Literary Festival in West Jefferson

September 12-15   On The Same Page Literary Festival  High Country locals and visitors are invited to celebrate the literary arts in Ashe County. The fourth annual literacy will focus on writing about North Carolina people, places and traditions.

Events planned for this festival are informative and fun with readings, workshops, a film showing and lots of question-and-answer sessions with the authors. 

Special Preface Event on September 11 at 7:30 PM:   Tongues of Fire. A theatre and musical production by the Touring Theatre of North Carolina. The play is  based on the short story by Lee Smith and prresented by the Ashe County Arts Council at the Ashe Civic Center. Admission is charged.
