Mountain Spirits: McRitchie Winery Hosts Cider Day

October 25 from 12 PM tp 5 PM at McRitchie Winery and Ciderworks, ‏315 Thurmond Post Office Road, ThurmondNC (between West Jefferson and Mount Airy) - Cider Day.  This annual Cider Day event promises an afternoon of great hard cider, wine, food and lots of fun in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The event's activities include:
  • Complimentary tasting of Hard Ciders - dry and semi-sweet - plus sneak peek of new 2014 ciders.
  • New Pear Cider
  •  Great food from the new food trailer ... designed to pair with the Winery's hard ciders and wines.
  • Locally grown mountain and heirloom apples ... there will be several varieties to taste.
  • Fresh pressed cider and apples available to purchase.
  • Winemaker Sean McRitchie will be conducting winery tours and talking about the 2014 harvest.
  • Bocce and horseshoes for those with lots of energy or to just watch and relax, enjoying a beautiful fall day in the foothills.
  • Entertainment from Bandit's Roost.   

  • Cider Festival Specials: 15% off full case purchases of Hard Cider (20% off for wine club members). 10% off 6-11 bottles of Hard Cider (15% wine club)
No admission charge and Complimentary cider tasting. Full tastings of wine and ciders plus logo glass is $7.  Food is available for purchase and the event will take place rain or shine.

Mountain Spirits: Avery County Beer and WIne Festival this Weekend

June 22   Avery County Beer and Wine Festival,  the The Blind Squirrel Brewery  and area breweries and local vineyards kick off summer in the High Country. The fun starts at noon so bring your lawn chair or blanket. This event is FREE and features local wineries and breweries offering free tastings with the option to purchase.

Food will be available for purchase and provided by the Toe River Lodge. Entertainment and activities include live music, corn hole toss, fly fishing tutorials by Rivers Edge Outfitters, craft vendors, disc golf games, and much more.

The Vance Toe River Lodge is located at 4716 South US Hwy 19E in Plumtree NC - between Linville and Spruce Pine.

May 26    Thistle Meadow Winemaker's Festival Taste what Thistle Meadow Winery and other area wineries have to offer, browse craft vendors and learn more about making your own wine. Live music. Free admission. Wine tasting is $5 and includes complimentary glass. Hours ar noon to 5 PM.The WInery is located in Layrel Springs NC.

Mountain Spirits: Weekend NC Wine Festivals

This popular spring event celebrates the breaking of buds on vines across the state by bringing together 17 wineries for a street festival in charming downtown Mount Airy. Sample wines, listen to live music, view art and crafts by local artisans and enjoy the taste treats in the 13 Bones Food Tent.

Event: Vineyards of Swan Creek Spring Wine Release
Join the Vineyards of Swan Creek and taste their spring releases along with a complimentary food sampling. Noon - 5 PM, $25 per ticket. The Vineyards of Swan Creek include Raffaldini Vineyards, Dobbins Creek Vineyard, Shadow Springs Vineyard, and Laural Gray Vineyard.

Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival this Weekend in Blowing Rock

April 10 - 14   Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival  takes place in and around Blowing Rock NC.  For this year's Festival The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute is partnering with the Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival to bring Alaska Seafood to the Festival. Enjoy wine tastings, seminars, cooking classes, wine makers' dinner and much more.

Look for special Winemaker's Dinners featuring cold water delicacies, Seafood Presentations at Uncork & Grillin' and Chillin', Cooking Demos by the Executive Chef of Harris Teeter, and samplings at The Grand Tasting.
