Father's Day Weekend Events: Lake Lure Fireworks and Summer Celebration

June 18 - Summer activities kickoff at Lake Lure with the Begin the  Summer Celebration and Fireworks on the Beach in Lake Lure. The fun-filled evening begins with a delicious Beachside Cookout offering a variety of favorites including:Low Country Boil, Roasted Chicken or Grilled Steak with hot dogs for the kids. The Tiki Bar will be serving cold drinks, beer and wine.

Music with a DJ, dancing and family games happen continuously from 5 PM - 9PM. Enjoy an old-fashioned drive-in style movie with popcorn and hand-scooped ice cream and a bonfire marshmallow roast. The spectacular fireworks display  over Lake Lure begins at 9:20 PM. The event is open to the public and includes free parking.Treat Dad to a special night of fun!

June 18    "Meet Me in the Smokies" Open Golf Tournament   This is the second annual "Meet Me in the Smokies" open golf tournament with a portion of the proceeds to go to the Sequoyah National Junior golf Program. Sponsored by the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce. The tournament will be held at the   Sequoyah National Golf Club   at 79 Cahons Road in Whittier NC.

Father's Day Event: Dad’s Big Pork Chop Dinner in Robbinsville

June 19, The Stechao Valley Arts Center, Robbinsville North Carolina.  A theatrical performance, mountain dulcimers, and a Father’s Day Dinner pack the schedule for Dad’s Big Pork Chop Dinner. The Stecoah Kitchen is now taking reservations for the Dinner served family-style in two seatings (5:00 and 6:15 pm). The menu features salad, pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy, cole slaw, corn, oven-fried squash, biscuits, and black forest chocolate cake. The Stecoah Kitchen prides itself in serving freshly prepared locally grown food. Reservations are required. Pricing for adults is $14.95, students (k-12) is $11.95, and children 4 and under is $7.95. Prices do not include tax or gratuity.

A one-man play tops off the evening at the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center in the historic auditorium. The performance titled “The Prince of Dark Corners” was written by noted playwright and storyteller Gary Carden of Dillsboro , NC . Steve Brady portrays the life and times of the Carolina outlaw, Major Lewis Redmond who was born in 1864 in Swain County . Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $5 for students (K-12), and children five and under are free. The performance begins at 7:30 pm.
