Blue Ridge Wine & Food Festival this Week in Blowing Rock NC

April 16-19, 2015   The Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival   Now in its 10th year, this festival celebrates the excitement of spring in the Blue Ridge with the best in cuisine, wine, and beer. Enjoy pairings, dinners, seminars, entertainments, and the Grand Tasting.

According to Festival officials, "Some tasty tweaks to this year’s festival include the Downtown Wine Down, from 3-7 PM on Friday. Shops downtown will have wine tastings to encourage participants to stop, sip and shop, and at least one distillery and the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum (BRAHM) will be included.

Thursday evening’s restaurant showcase Taste!, will include not only North Carolina wines and food products, but also the State’s beers and distillers. The big-tent Reserve Tasting on Saturday will feature Riedel glassware, so participants can best experience high-end wines offered.

A new seminar this year will be Build Your Own Bordeaux, hosted by Christopher’s Wine & Cheese, a popular local seminar offered for the first time at the festival this year."

15th Annual Winterfest in Blowing Rock NC

January 23 - 26   15th Annual Winterfest   Join the Village of Blowing Rock to celebrate the fun side of winter at this annual family event. From the Wine Auction, ice carving and Live Bluegrass, to the Chili Cook-Off, Winter Paws Show, Fashion Show, Kids' Activities and the Polar Plunge in Chetola Lake, there's something for everyone.

New this year is the Chillin' with the King Bees Blues Concert and Cocoa and Canvas st The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum.

Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show Hunter - Jumper Division

July 30 - August 4   Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show   Hunter Jumper II. The Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show is one of the oldest horse show events in the country and has been a Blowing Rock tradition since 1923. 

The Show is held on The L. M. Tate Horse Show Grounds, at the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve located in the mountain splendor of Western North Carolina’s Moses Cone Memorial Park, the Pisgah National Forest, and one mile from historic Blowing Rock, North Carolina. 

A variety of food options on the grounds and a unique collection of vendors provide an unforgettable shopping experience. Items such as jewelry, clothing, gift items, beautiful photographs and original one-of-a-kind paintings (some completed as you watch) are elegantly displayed by serious quality-minded merchants and craftsmen.

The Horse Show is considered one of the “Highlight of Blowing Rock’s Summer Season”. You will enjoy this grand Blowing Rock tradition. Surrounded by the Cone’s favorite place on earth, at the historic horse show grounds in Mayview, you can enjoy the spectacular display of the finest show horses in the country as they chase the silk and silver of the “Oldest Continuous Outdoor Horse Show In America”.

Whether you enjoy a single day or the entire three weeks, all spectators are welcome. You can enjoy the show from the famous grandstand, from your own special box seat or along the rail at the In Gate.

July 23 - 28    Blowing Rock Horse Show  Hunter / Jumper division. The 89th annual Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show is one of the oldest horse show events in the country and has been a Blowing Rock tradition since 1923. Admission is charged.

Symphony by the Lake at Chetola in Blowing Rock

July 27. 7 PM   Symphony by the Lake at Chetola  Experience a moving performance by the Symphony of the Mountains, surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Take your seat on the grass by Chetola Lake, under the evening sky. Bring a picnic to enjoy with friends and family, or purchase meals from caterers at the event.

The performance ends with a spectacular fireworks show over the Lake. Admission is charged.

K-9s in Flight Frisbee Dogs this week at Tweetsie Railroad

July 21 - 29   K-9s in Flight Frisbee Dogs at Tweetsie Railroad  Tweetsie Railroad hosts the high energy performances by a team of dynamic dogs in acrobatic freestyle routines. Seating is first come, first served and is included in the Park admission. 

Enjoy high flying fun as you watch the K-9s In Flight Frisbee® Dogs perform. The non-stop, action-packed performances from John Misita’s entourage of talented dogs include catching flying Frisbees during a back flip, dock dives and taking a running leap off of John’s back. The entourage of talented rescue dogs will delight visitors as they jump to new heights during daily shows at 11:00 AN., 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

4th of July Event: Independence Day Festival and Parade in Blowing Rock NC

June 30    Independence Day Festival and Parade   Downtown games, music and the Grandaddy of all small-town parades. FREE event held in Memorial Park and Main Street.

The event kicks off with a horseshoe tournament offering cash prizes. The day continues with games in the Park, live music, the Country Magic Cloggers, the parade, bluegrass gospel music from the Cockman Family and more. The event ends with a fireworks display on the grounds of the Blowing Rock Country Club.

Art in the Park Today in Blowing Rock

June 16 - Art in the Park   Don't miss Blowing Rock's Art in the Park, a juried art and crafts show featuring 90 artists held in the picturesque downtown park once a  month from May to October. Some of the best local and regional artists and craftspeople showcase their handcrafted jewelry, pottery, fiber, glass, photography, painting and more. Prices for objects, from a handmade postcard to a large piece of furniture, range from $5 to $5,000.
