2014 Agritourism Guide Now Available for Haywood County
Buy Haywood’s “Find your Adventure! 2014 Agritourism Guide” (formerly known as the Farm Map and Brochure) will be released on Thursday, April 10th at the Mélange of the Mountains Culinary Gala held at Laurel Ridge Country Club in Waynesville, NC—marking the kick off to the 2014 Mélange Culinary Weekend.
Agritourism as an enterprise is being hailed as a “primary force” in our modern economy drawing millions of visitors to North Carolina—who spend upwards of $13 billion dollars each year. “The 2014 Agritourism Guide has been designed to appeal to a vibrant and diverse traveler, from empty-nesters to modern families, while highlighting the rich farming and agricultural heritage of our county,” says Tina Masciarelli, Buy Haywood Project Coordinator.
This unique and popular publication crisscrosses Haywood County offering year-round opportunities to enjoy a variety of agritourism adventures. The 2014 Guide includes: farmer and tailgate markets, roadside stands, on-farm markets, U Pick farms, specialty retail shops, rustic hospitality venues, historic preservation sites, Christmas tree farms, plant nurseries, a 2014 Calendar of heritage related events and festivals, and a listing of “Farm to Table” local flavors which is a new addition to the publication this year.
“The guide is an invitation to explore our vibrant community of agripreneurs—where heritage meets modern convenience,” says Masciarelli. “The 2014 guide is a wonderful example of a community effort—it includes a spectacular hand-illustrated map by local naturalist, Ken Czarnomski; a breathtaking panoramic photograph of Purchase Knob by Ed Kelley; and a never before published Sunburst Trout Reuben Sandwich recipe by local “Farm to Table” chef, Heidi Dunkelberg of Coffee Cup Café.”
Buy Haywood is a project of the Haywood County Economic Development Commission and financially supported by the Haywood Advancement Foundation. The agritourism efforts receive vital support from community partners such as the Haywood Advancement Foundation, Bethel Rural Community Organization and the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority.
Printed guides are FREE and can be picked up at any of the Haywood County Visitor Centers and other venues around the county. A full listing of distribution partners will be available on Buy Haywood’s website the week of April 14th, along with a downloadable PDF. Mélange of the Mountains Culinary Weekend ticket and event information can be found at www.haywood-nc.com or by calling 828.456.3021.
