This Weekend's North Carolina Mountain Events and Festivals

August 26 - 29   LAKE LURE    6th Annual Hickory Nut Gorge Olympiad   This four-day sport and community festival features dozens of events and activities. For the hardcore athlete, there’s the triathlon, Race to the Rock or five-mile run. More of a weekend warrior? Try the 3x3 basketball, golf or the pontoon boat challenge. There’s plenty for non-athletes and kids, too!
August 23 - 28   SPARTA   Alleghany County Fair   Enjoy carnival rides, games and food at this old-fashioned county fair. Agricultural exhibits and competition. Huge lawnmower race on Saturday night, last night of the fair. Fireworks show at race conclusion.

August  27 - 29  ASHEVILLE  28th Annual GoomBay! Festival   GoomBay is an African-Caribbean festival that lives up to its West African name, meaning rhythm or drum, with rhythmic sounds and colorful sights. Sponsored by the YMI Cultural Center.

August 27   BREVARD   Brevard 4th Friday Gallery Walks   Enjoy an evening of Art, Wine & Food in Downtown Brevard. Every 4th Friday of the month, from May through December. 5-9 pm

August 27 - 28   MAGGIE VALLEY   Valley Classic Auto & Truck Show   Classic autos come to Maggie Valley again! Back by popular demand. After a terrific first year it is bigger and better than ever.

August 28   BRYSON CITY   Tsali Challenge off road triathalon    which sports a combination paddle, run and bike.
