Bookstore Readings in Downtown Sylva

August 27 at 7:00 PM, Macon County poet and environmentalist Brent Martin will be at City Lights to read from his new chapbook, entitled A Shout in the Woods. Martin lives in Macon County's Cowee community, where he works in forest conservation for The Wilderness Society. His first chapbook, Poems from Snow Hill Road, was published by New Native Press in 2007. Martin will read from his nature-inspired poetry, take questions from the audience, and sign copies of his chapbooks.

August 28 at  7:00 PM, the bookstore will host Ruby Falconer of Whittier who will offer a presentation based on her new book, Shamanic Egyptian Astrology: Your Planetary Relationship to the Gods. The book provides a new way to interpret and work with natal charts by integrating Western astrology and shamanism into the Egyptian pantheon. Each chapter includes sacred invocations and shamanic rituals to invite the wisdom of each Egyptian deity into one's life.
