August 26 and 27 - 6th Annual Festival of Native Peoples and Cherokee Art Market at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds in Cherokee, NC. The festival is a gathering of tribes from the Americas to celebrate Native culture. The event includes raditional dancing, food and craft vendors.
Indigenous tribes from across the Americas gather for the sixth Annual Festival of Native Peoples this weekend. Considered the finest showcase of native dance, song and art in the southeast, the event honors the collective history, customs and wisdom of some of the oldest documented tribes.
Among featured performers this year are the Totonac pole flyers of Mexico who thrill audiences as they fly from a ninety-foot pole in a spectacle of swirling color in honor of the sun and the Totonac calendar.
Gates open Friday at 1 PM. and Saturday at 11 AM with performances throughout the day and into the evening. Adult admission $10; children six and under are free.
