What to do this Weekend in the NC Mountains

Art and Craft Lovers:
June 4 Boone North Carolina. Friday Art Crawl  The Art Crawl features local and regional artists of all genres ranging from traditional crafts, pottery, paintings, metalwork, jewelry and glasswork to music and live entertainment. Several of the participating artists will be on hand to discuss and demonstrate their skills. Galleries and shops are open until 8 p.m. Restaurants and bars are open until 10 p.m. or 2 a.m. Two underground galleries are open from 7 p.m. to midnight—only on Art Crawl nights Blue Ridge Parkway 75 event, milepost 285

June 4  Asheville North Carolina. Asheville Downtown Gallery Association   Art Walk . Visit the downtown galleries to enjoy the fine art and craft that they have to offer. The Asheville Downtown Gallery Association has Twenty-two downtown galleries for you to visit that are listed on the Downtown Gallery Guide with a map to help you along the way at any participating downtown gallery, the Chamber of Commerce, or Pack Place. 

June 5 Asheville North Carolina. Clay Day at the Folk Art Center  This free event features craft demonstrations and hands-on activities for children and adults. The Southern Highland Craft Guild also has invited Blue Ridge Parkway volunteer organizations to be in attendance sharing information on Parkway events, history, and stewardship. June 5 Cullowhee North Carolina. Patchwork Folk & Fabric Festival Jackson County Recreation Center The traditions of spinning, weaving, quilting, caning, blacksmithing, sewing, hand stitchery, and other folk arts have survived in the Appalachian culture through the generations, kept alive by the hands of those who value these heritage skills passed down to them. At the Patchwork Folk and Fabric Festival presented at the Jackson County Recreation Center in Cullowhee on Saturday, June 5th, these skills are showcased and honored, demonstrated and shared by members of our community. Products will be available for sale


June 5 - 6 Black Mountain North Carolina. Black Mountain Arts and Crafts Show Juried Art and Craft Festival in downtown . Purpose: To Promote the highest quality crafts. Held in the middle of Historic Black Mountain. Food and Cold Drinks at West end The Old Depot.


Music Lovers:
June 4 Swannanoa North Carolina.  Swannanoa Shindig Live traditional Appalachian music and square dance caller; craft booths, children’s games, jamming sessions, and other activities honor the heritage of the original Old Farmers’ Ball near Warren Wilson College. Blue Ridge 75 Event, Milepost 377

June 4 Asheville North Carolina.  Pickn’ and Poetry on the Porch Local musicians, poets, and writers performing on the front porch of the historic “Old Kentucky Home” - Thomas Wolfe Memorial State Historic Site. Bring a sack lunch and lawn chair and enjoy this downtown cultural event. First and third Fridays of each month May - October. Blue Ridge 75 Event, Milepost 377

June 4-5 Mount Airy North Carolina.  39th Annual Mount Airy Blue Grass & Old Time Fiddlers Convention Bring your lawn chair and come out to Veterans park and listen
to the music or even jam with other attendees. Band contests will be held for: Bluegrass Band and Old Time Band. Bands must consist of at least three different sting instruments, one being a fiddle or a banjo. Separate contests held for Youth bands in each category.

Outdoor Adventures:
June 5 Chimney Rock North Carolina.  National Trails Day We can’t think of a better reason to celebrate! Join us for complimentary guided hikes with Park specialists every hour from 11am to 3pm.
June 5 Beech Mountain North Carolina. Rally for Porsche 928s Fans of the Porsche 928 can witness the nation's largest gathering of this powerful sports car on Saturday, June 5, atop Beech Mountain. The 13th annual Sharks in the Mountains rally, hosted by 928 Specialists of Spruce Pine, will attract a fleet of more than 100 cars. These unique Porsches are called "sharks" because their front profile resembles that of a shark.

June 5  Linville North Carolina.  National Trails Day Volunteer Project Come help us maintain Grandfather's trails and let the backcountry rangers share their knowledge of and passion for Grandfather Mountain. Free admission for volunteers.
 
June 6 Bakersville North Carolina.  2nd Annual Bakersville Troutacular Festival Fishing, arts & crafts, outdoor education, music, games and food.
