Nantahala Outdoor Center Offers an Opportunity to Win a Family Rafting of Zip LiningTrip

Win a rafting trip or zip lining for your entire family. Just go to the Nantahala Outdoor Center website and fill out a short survey about your experiences and why your family should win the trip.

Share your personality, quirkiness and unique "style" as you write. NOC be looking for answers that stand out from the crowd. The winning family/s will choose from a free rafting or zip lining trip in 2016. Plus, you'll be interviewed in-person for a chance to be in NOC’s upcoming video showing guests what it means to be a River Family.

Responses must be submitted by Sunday, January 31, 2016 at midnight. A winner will be selected the following week. The winning group will be limited to 10 people and immediate family.

ICF Junior & U23 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships Begins Today At NOC in Bryson City BC

August 2 - 7, 2015    ICF Junior & U23 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships    The International Canoe Federation's wildwater canoeing world championships provides juniors and young adults with the opportunity to compete internationally in the wildwater discipline. Wildwater racing consists of indiduals and teams racing from one point on the river to another point. 

Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) is a complete outdoor Outfitter. Opened in 1972, NOC has endeavored to share the wonders of the Nantahaloa River and the surrounding trails and forests through rafting, hiking, pedaling and paddling.

The Center now offers:

Whitewater Junior Olympics at Nantahala Outdoor Center

July 24 - 26, 2015   Whitewater Junior Olympics   Nantahala Racing Club hosts the 2015 Whitewater Junior Olympics on the Nantahala River. This national-level youth event featuring slalom, downriver and freestyle competition as well as just-for-fun on- and off-the-water events such as duckie-cross, SUP free paddle and yard games. Family-friendly and fun for beginner through advanced paddlers,

The Nantahala Outdoor Center has been host to hundreds of thousands of visitors since its inception in 1972. Now a complete Outdoor Outfitter, NOC  offers adventures in the Nantahala river and on the hills and trails of the forest - raft, hike pedal or paddle:

Easter Weekend Events: Appalachian Trail Founders Bridge Festival

April 3-5, 2015     Appalachian Trail Founders Bridge Festival    Enjoy trail-steeped speakers sharing their experiences, a vendor village staffed by industry representatives, skills clinics, as well as some great product giveaways and door prizes and live music nightly.

This is a free event, appropriated for all ages. Whether you're an experienced through hiker, casual adventurer or new to the Trail this Festival offers something for everyone.  Festival events include hiker-themed games, movies, lectures and prizes.

The Festival is held at  Nantahala Outdoor Center's  (NOC) main campus, the Nantahala River Outpost,  located in far Western North Carolina on US Highway 19. 12 miles from Bryson City NC and on the south side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, nestled in the Nantahala Gorge. If you are on a Rapid Transit rafting/train excursions, the meeting place is in Bryson City at the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Depot.

Nantahala Outdoor Center hosts NRC Whitewater Open this Weekend

March 28 - 29   NRC Whitewater Open at NOC   Open to all ages with entrance fees of $25 (Downriver), $55 (Slalom). This national-level event hosted by Nantahala Racing Club. Pre-registration: Sign up online by March 25 to avoid late fees. Onsite registration: March 27, 2 - 4 PM at Big Wesser BBQ and Brew. Visit NantahalaRacingClub.com for event details and schedules.

Memorial Day Weekend at NOC

Head for the hills this Memorial Day Weekend and the Nantahala Outfoor Center to kick off the summer season with a real SPLASH!  Enjoy the excitement of a whitewater adventure on on rapids from class II to V. A variety of trips and locations are offered including two different trips on the pristine French Broad river complete with a picnic lunch.

If you're looking for a multi-adventure package, try the "Ropes and Rafts" combining a fast run down the gorgeous Nantahala River, a riverside lunch and the 40 foot high Zip Line Adventure Park. The day ends with a race down the dual 550' Wesser Zips.

Experienced rafters love the challenges of Section IV of the Chattooga River including the Seven-Foot Falls, Raven’s Chute Rapid and the famous Five Falls, where five Class IV-V rapids unfold in only a 1/3 of a river mile.

Special Memorial Day Weekend activities:

May 24, 4:30 PM:  Merrell Adventure Dash, open to all ages. Navigate a series of obstacles and choose form a 5K Dash or 1 K Fun Rum along the river. $20 entry fee. Register online or at the event.

May 23,24 at 6PM: Live Concert Series featuring Paul Constantine on Friday and Blue and the Barn Cats on Saturday. NOC's concert Series continues all summer and is held at at Big Wesser BBQ + Brew, an open-air venue west of Asheville.

May 24: Big Wesser BBQ + Brew   Memorial Beer Tasting with Railhouse Brewery.

May 24-25:   NRC Family Whitewater Weekend  For ages 8 and up. A variety of events and competitions are included, register online and get complete details.

Nantahala Hosts Appalachian Trail Founders Bridge Festival

April 4-6   Appalachian Trail Founders Bridge Festival   Enjoy trail-steeped speakers sharing their experiences, a vendor village staffed by industry representatives, skills clinics, as well as some great product giveaways and door prizes and live music nightly. Held at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC).

The 2,181+ mile-long Appalachian Trail is America’s most beloved footpath. The AT crosses the Nantahala River along NOC's Founder's Bridge,  at the Wesser Campus, mile 134 along the AT, before the steep climb into the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. NOC Wesser is a friendly, comfortable spot for hikers to rest up, fill their bellies and warm their bones before embarking along the challenging section of the trail to the north.

Join the NOC resident thru-hikers for a FREE detailed planning clinic to help you prepare for the journey of a lifetime.  Clinics will be led by NOC staff that have all formerly thru-hiked and have tens of thousands of trail miles behind them. The event will cover:

  • Maps
  • Common mistakes
  • Pack shakedowns, and tips for lightening your load

NOCtoberfest celebrated this month at the Nantahala Outdoor Center

October 6-31   NOCtoberFest    NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center) draws down the year with a month-long series of events geared to commemorate the rich variety of the season. The Beer Garden menu will include schnitzels galore, old-fashioned German potato salad, classic beef goulash, and Bavarian dumplings. 

Beverage Selection will include: Spaten Octoberfest, Gaffel, Franziskaner, and hot mulled wine. Activities include hayrides, a haunted house, The Great Pumpkin Pursuit Harvest Festival, Face Painting and Costume Contest, Live Music, a Fall River Cleanup Community Service Project and more. NOC celebrates the changing of the colors, the crispness in the air, and the beginning of the new hiking season with NOCtoberfest. The event has grown so popular,that this fall celebrations offer a month-long series of events geared to commemorate the rich variety of the season.

NOC Guest Appreciation Festival 2012

September 28 - 30     Guest Appreciation Festival 2012     NOC's ( Nantahala Outdoor Center) biggest annual event includes an exciting schedule of activities: complimentary boater shuttles,  The "Granddaddy of Gear Sales", free entertainment and live music, local vendors and lots of family-friendly fun.

 

Noc's Festival events includes a great line-up of live music, beer tastings with Nantahala Brewing Company, and fun hands-on activities throughout the day, as well as good-natured boating competitions in partnership with World Kayak. Families, don't miss Steve Longnecker's Live Raptor Show, featuring owls, falcons, and eagles from around the American southeast, and storytelling with Connie Regan-Blake.
