October 2 - 3, 2015    Ghost Train Halloween Festival at Tweetsie Railroad   Advanced ticket purchase is recommended for this very popular event. 

Fun for the whole family, this ghastly special event admission includes: all the nighttime activities in the park - the ride on the Ghost Train, trick-or-treating for the kids, Haunted House, Tweetsie Palace Spooktacular, the rides in the Creepy Carnival, and the attractions in "The Boneyard” section, featuring the Black Hole, 3-D maze, and the “Freaky Forest.”

Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Dinosaur Train™ FInal Weekend

July 31 - August 2, 2015   Dinosaur Train™ at The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad   This event is based on the popular PBS-Kid television series, created by Jim Henson. This adventure filled train ride is packed full with music, stories, entertainment, and activities.

This is a round trip excursion with a layover at the Nature's Tracker Area where Dinosaur Train activities will be waiting. T.rex will greet passengers and  be available for photos ops. Dino golf (putt-putt style), temporary tattoos, dinosaur fossil dig, crafts, bouncy house and bouncy slide (weather permitting) and plenty of tasty concessions and retail to purchase will be part of the fun.  All children will receive their very own Nature Trackers Club guidebook and membership card.

All Aboard the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad for BBQ and Brews

June 27, 2015    Fontana Trestle Train BBQ and Brews   The Barbeque and Brews Dinner Trains feature locally hand-crafted beer from Heinzelmannchen Brewery and Nantahala Brewing Company. plus slow-cooked authentic North Carolina Barbeque. 

The train departs Bryson City NC Depot at 7 PM and travels through the scenic mountain countryside to the Fontana Trestle for a spectacular sunset. The base ticket prices from $69 (adults over 21 only) and includes a souvenir tasting glass with three beer samples and a meal of pulled pork, homemade coleslaw and apple pie. Additional beer will be available for purchase.

All Aboard the Polar Express this Weekend

November 7 - 8, 2014 (event continues through January 4, 2014)   The Polar Express at The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad   The 1 ¼ hour round-trip excursion comes to life as the train departs the Bryson City depot for a journey through the quiet wilderness for a special visit at the North Pole. 

Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, guests on board will enjoy warm cocoa and a treat while listening and reading along with the magical story. Santa will board THE POLAR EXPRESS, greeting each child and presenting them with a special gift as in the story, their own silver sleigh bell. 

Enjoy singing Christmas carols during the trip back. Kids of all ages will believe in the magic of the Holiday season.

Letterland comes to Tweetsie Railroad

May 13 - 14, 2014    Letterland at Tweetsie Railroad   For 2 more  days, the park will be transformed into the world of Letterland, the popular United Kingdom-based reading system that teaches young children the alphabet and phonics skills by bringing the letters to life.

The event will feature characters from Letterland ABC, the United Kingdoms best-selling alphabet book. Visitors will be greeted by Quarrelsome Queen and will have the opportunity to ride on Talking Tess Train, Golden Girls Go-carts and more. 

Admission: Special Letterland rates by reservation (advanced): $19 for age 3-12, $31 age 13+

Christmas Event: Jingle Bell Trolley Train Ride in Asheville

December 21   Jingle Bell Trolley Train Ride   Santa and Mrs. Clause will be there to meet the children and hot chocolate and cookies will be served for everyone. Train rides will start on the hour, from 4 PM. to 8 PM. Tickets are $10 for this special Christmas train ride. Kids 3 and under get free admission.

All Aboard for The Polar Express at The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

November 8 - December 29    The Polar Express at The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad  Journey to the North Pole  via the Polar Express to pick up Santa all the while enjoying caroling, cookies, and cocoa - and for those who truly believe; a silver bell just like in the book. Kids of all ages will believe in the magic of the Holiday season.

The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad welcomed nearly 50,000 passengers last year for this popular annual event. The 1.5 hour round-trip train ride journeys through quiet mountain meadows to the North Pole and Santa Claus. Santa greets each child and presents them their special silver sleigh bell.

Get your tickets early to be assured you don't miss the magic. The Express will run rain or snow, as long as access highways are clear.

The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is located in downtown Bryson City NC.

Peanuts Pumpkin Patch Express on The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

October 11-13   Peanuts Pumpkin Patch Express   The PEANUTS gang return the the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Pumpkin Patch for this annual family fun favorite. The excursions, which are themed after Charles M. Schulz's classic story "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," will be departing from the Bryson City Depot and arriving at the Pumpkin Patch.

Listen to
a narration of Schulz’s “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” as the train travels through the beautiful fall leaf color to the Pumpkin Patch. Upon arrival, passengers will be greeted and have a photo opportunity with Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Snoopy. During the 1 hour and 45min layover, your activities will include: campfire marshmallows, a coloring station, temporary tattoos, trick or treating, bouncy house, hayrides and live musical entertainment.

And kids - don’t forget to wear your Halloween costumes. There will be plenty of PEANUTS™ merchandise at the Smoky Mountain Trains gift shop for those who would like a souvenir.  Each child will also select their own pumpkin from The Great Pumpkin Patch to take home.

Tweetsie hosts Railroad Heritage Weekend

September 8-9   Railroad Heritage Weekend    A unique weekend celebrating the history of the ET&WNC Railroad and Tweetsie Railroad. Enjoy two steam engines at their finest; see historic railway films and much more. Special weekend pass required for selected events. Cherokee dance and demonstrations for all park guests. Tweetsie Railroad Cool Summer Nights in July


July 27    Tweetsie Railroad Cool Summer Nights   The Park is open until 9 PM on select nights with special train show rides at dusk. Cool Summer Nights is included as a part of regular admission.

NC Trains and Railroads: BBQ and Brews Dinner Train This Saturday

June 22 - Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, 226 Everett Street in Bryson City NC  - The First ever Barbeque and Brews Dinner Trains featuring locally hand-crafted beer from Nantahala Brewing Company and Heinzelmannchen Brewery plus slow-cooked authentic North Carolina Barbeque.

The train departs Bryson City Depot at 7 PM and returns at 9 PM traveling through the scenic mountain countryside to the Fontana Trestle for a spectacular sunset.  The base ticket price is $69 (adults over 21 only) and includes a souvenir tasting glass with three beer samples and a meal of pulled pork, homemade coleslaw, kettle chips, fruit and key lime pie. Additional beer will be available for purchase.

Nantahala Brewing Company will be sampled on June 22 and July 6: Heinzelmannachen Brewery will be sampled on June 29 and July 13.

Tweetsie Railroad Now Open for the 2013 Season - All Aboard!

Tweetsie Railroad has opened for the 2013 Season.  Join the fun at NC's oldest theme park for another season of wild-west adventures and excitement.   April 12 through May 27, 2013 hours: Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and Memorial Day Monday, May 27, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.  May 31 through August 18, 2013: Open 7 days a week, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.   August 23 through November 3, 2013: Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and Labor Day Monday, September 2, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Special events are offered throughout the 2013 Season including:


May 7-9 and 15-16 : Letterland Days. See your favorite Letterland Characters come to life. From Talking Tess's Train to Eddie Elephant's gem area, each area of the Park is an opportunity for children to learn and play.


May 31 - June 9: Day Out with Thomas. All Aboard for a 25 minute ride with a full size Thomas the Tank engine. Meet Sir Topham Hatt and enjoy storytelling, live music and build with Mega Bloks.


June 21-23: Meet Dora and Diego. Kids can meet Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer and her cousin Diego from 11 AM through 3 PM throughout the weekend.


July 4: 4th of July Celebration. The Park gates will be upon until 9 AM for the most exciting fireworks display in the High Country. Specialk dinner options are offered.


July 6, 13, 20, 27: Cool Summer Nights
. The Park stays open until 9 PM and features special train show rides at dusk and the chance to make some cool summer memories.


July 12 - 14: Sponge Bob Square Pants and Patrick Star. Kids can meet Nickelodeon's Sponge Bob and Patrick Star from 11 AM through 3 PM throughout the weekend.

New Year's Eve Events: Great Smoky Mountains Railroad New Year's Eve Celebration

December 31 - Celebrate New Year's Eve on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.  Arrive early for a special reception beginning at 7:45 PM in the Smoky Mountain Trains Museum located steps away from the depot.  Start the night with an exclusive selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks, and Feast on array of hors d' oeuvres: Tiger Shrimp with Cocktail sauce,  Button Mushrooms stuffed with, Shrimp/Crab and Parmesan, Fruit covered in rich chocolate.


New Year's Eve on the railway includes dinner and dancing with a champagne toast at midnight.  Do something different this year and forgoe the old traditional party and hop on board for the send off of the New Year.  The train departs Monday December 31 from the historic Bryson City, NC depot at 9 PM and returns after the midnight toast.  


Enjoy a Feast fit for First Class,  beginning with a salad made of fresh baby greens in a raspberry vinaigrette dressing and warm yeast rolls.  Choose from a selection of delicious entrees: Spinach stuffed chicken with a creamy parmesan sauce, Seasoned pork loin served with a tart raspberry glaze, Portobello mushroom tower stuffed with smoked peppers, spinach and parmesan cheese.  Finish off your meal with a tasty rich white chocolate cheesecake covered with fresh berries. Dinner is served buffet style and guests can mingle, relax, indulge on delicious food while greeting the New Year in Style.

Musical entertainment is provided by Alias Smith & Jones, a popular Atlanta-based acoustic guitar/vocal duo whose vast repertoire ranges from the must-have classics to the totally unexpected.  Two experienced guitarists combine their voices with harmonica, flute, mandolin, percussion, and a few surprises to deliver a unique musical experience.

Last Two Weeks to Ride the Polar Express

Now through December 29 join join friends and family, visitors and locals for one of the most popular Christmas mountain events: The Polar Express on The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.

All Aboard The Polar Express for a memorable journey to the magic of the Holiday season. The 1.25 hour round-trip excursion departs the Bryson City NC depot for a journey through a peaceful wilderness to a special visit at the North Pole. The motion picture soundtrack music plays as guests on board enjoy warm cocoa and a treat while reading along with the magical story. 

Children's faces show the magic of the season when the train arrives at the "North Pole" to find Santa Claus waiting. Santa will board The Polar Express, greeting each child and presenting everyone a special gift as in the story – a special silver sleigh bell. Christmas carols will be sung on the return back to the Bryson City Depot.
