Children's Trout Derby this Weekend in Cherokee NC

August  6, 2016    Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby   A free fishing event for children. On day one there will be pre-registering available and guests can enjoy a full day of fun with many attractions and eligibility for prizes at the end of the day. 

On day two there will be four hours available to fish, free breakfast, and lunch will be provided for registered children. Prizes will also be given away worth up to $20,000.00 on the second day (only to registered children) 

Also on the second day (Saturday) children will be able to enjoy listening to music, celebrity guests, live animal exhibits, free food and more.

Labor Day Weekend Events: Trout Fishing Tournament in Cherokee

September 4 - 6, 2015   The Qualla Country Trout Tournament  Compete for  a share of the $20,000 in prizes.  Hundreds of specially tagged fish will be stocked in the Cherokee public fishing waters. When a tagged fish is caught it can be redeemed for cash prizes ranging from $20 to $500 based on the color of the tag. Redemption location and times to be announced. 

This fishing tournament is open to all ages and for all legal fishing methods. Registration necessary to redeem cash prize. $11 entry fee.

Trout Fishing Tournament this Weekend in CHerokee

July 17 - 18, 2015     Cherokee Dog Day Trout Tournament    $10,000 in tagged fish in the rivers on the Cherokee Reservation (excluding the 2.2 miles of catch and release waters) Hundreds of specially tagged fish will be stocked in the Cherokee public fishing waters. 

When a tagged fish is caught it can be redeemed for cash prizes ranging from $20 to $500 based on the color of the tag. Prize redemption for tagged fish will be at the Water beetle stage, a pavilion next to the Cherokee Welcome Center on US 441. Open to all ages and for all legal fishing methods. Registration necessary to redeem cash prize. $11 entry fee.

Memorial Day Weekend Event: Trout Fishing Tournament in Cherokee

May 23 - 25   Cherokee's Memorial Holiday Trout Fishing Tournament   This fishing event is a tagged fish tournament with a total purse of $10,000. A tagged fish can be redeemed for its corresponding prize value by turning in the tag to the prize distribution booth located at the Artists Row on Aquoni Road across from the Kentucky Fried Chicken. 

All persons fishing during the tournament must possess and have on their person while engaged in fishing both an event permit and a valid Tribal fishing permit. An enrolled member’s enrollment card shall serve as his/her fishing permit.

Annual Trout Derby in Blowing Rock NC

April 6   The 34th Annual Trout Derby   The Derby begins at sunrise with awards at 4:30 PM. No pre-registration necessary. Public waters only, no ponds - nearby fishing spots include Price Lake, Bass Lake, Trout Lake and the Middle Fork River along Highway 321.

Licenses and bait can be purchased at Village Hardware on Green Street.. Fishing at Mayview Lake (Broyhill Park) for children 11 and under and persons with disabilities. Fish weighed and measured at American Legion Building on Park Avenue.
