Brevard Music Center Welcomes Garrison Keillor and A Pairie Home Companion on the America the Beautiful Tour

August 15, 2015   Brevard Music Center Performance: A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor.  7:30 PM. Enjoy Garrison on the America the Beautiful Tour. A Prairie Home Companion, the beloved National Public Radio program hosted by Garrison Keillor, returns to Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium. 


As one of only a few cities across the country that will feature Keillor and company during his 2015 “The America the Beautiful” farewell summer bus tour,  Brevard NC and the Music Center performance marks one of the LAST opportunities for the public to experience A Prairie Home Companion with its original cast before Keillor's retirement. 

This event will also conclude the season's popular BMC Presents series, featuring non-classical programming that delights and inspires new audiences.  Tickets $25 - $85.

Brevard Music Center Soloists of Tommorrow Concert

July 28, 3 PM at The Brevard Music Center -  The Soloists of Tomorrow Concert featuring the winners of the 2013 Jan & Beattie Wood Concerto Competition. These talented BMC students have competed and won the opportunity to perform as soloists with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra. We hope you can join us to celebrate their success.

Memorial Day Weekend Events: White Squirrel Festival in Brevard

May 26-28   White Squirrel Festival   Get ready to go nuts! The Festival is host to an opening “Memorial Day Parade.”  White Squirrel Photo Contest, white squirrel tours, and plenty of nutty fun for the entire family.  Events include 14 free, live concerts and the running of the popular Squirrel Box Derby.  This festival was voted  "Best Spring Music Festival in Western North Carolina" by the readers of the Asheville Citizen Times.

Mother's Day Weekend Events: Waterfall Tour in Brevard

May 12 - 13      DuPont State Forest Tour de Falls    Tour DuPont State Forest by bus during this special event. Cars and buses are normally not allowed in the forest, but provided during the Tour for those who may not be able to do the usual hiking, biking or horseback riding activities.

The 12 mile tour by shuttle bus includes four spectacular sites in DuPont State Recreational Forest: Triple Falls, High Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Lake Julia. Volunteers will be on each bus and at each stop to provide information about the history of the area and the efforts to protect the historical and natural resources within this 10,400 acre fore

Buses will leave the event parking area approximately every 30 minutes from 9 AM
until 2:30 PM. Visitors may get off the bus at each stop to take photos and explore the area. The tour takes 3 hours or longer, depending on how much time is spent at each stop.

A donation of $6 for ages 6 to 17 and $12 for ages 18 and up is requested and may be made by cash or check - credit card processing is NOT available. . Buses are not handicap-accessible and pets are not allowed on the buses.

Hunger Games Fan Tours in Brevard

When The Hunger Games movie opened on March 23 Brevard NC was pleased to be in the spotlight.  With many of the scenes in the  Hunger Games shot  in DuPont State Fores,  Brevard area businesses and community organizations are offering visitors a chance to get "up close and personal" with the behind the scenes action of the popular movie with locally sponsored Hunger Games Tours. . Leigh Trapp with The Marketing Trapp and Tammy Hopkins, Film Liaison and Transylvania Community Arts Council Director for Brevard and Transylvania County have put together Hunger Games Fan Tours which will feature the filming locations used by The Hunger Games movie in DuPont State Recreational Forest."
Day Trips: Explore DuPont State Recreational Forest and discover the locations used in the movie. Master fundamental survival skills like orienteering, camo-face painting, and shelter building needed to excel in the Hunger Games. Lunch will be provided in Hunger Games style. Shuttle service, DuPont State Recreational Forest permit and guides are  provided.  Ages: Tours are best suited for children 10 yrs + accompanied by an adult, family tour groups are welcome. Any child under the at the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.   Parking/Orientation Location: Comporium Parking Lot Main Street across from the Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce (190 East Main Street, Brevard, NC 28712)   Pre-registration required.   Cost $79 per person   May 26, May 27, July 14, July 15, Aug. 11, Aug. 12 More dates will be added soon for the spring, summer and fall. 

Weekend Trips:    Start your Hunger Games Fan Tours’ Adventure Weekend on Friday by gathering at Earthshine Mountain Lodge for an incredible evening. You’ll be part of the lottery and get separated into your own District. You’ll then join other Tributes for a welcoming banquet – Hunger Games style.

Saturday you’ll be dropped on location in DuPont State Recreational Forest, where you’ll discover clues that will lead you to the filming location sites used in the movie. Your Sponsor will be on hand to assist you – and to teach you survival skills along the way. You’ll then reconvene at Earthshine Mountain Lodge for lunch. The afternoon will be filled with survival classes that you’ll need to participate in the Hunger Games Simulation: archery, sling shot training, fire building, orienteering, shelter building, and camo-face painting. In the evening you’ll have another Hunger Games dinner sponsored by the Capital – and you’ll night zip-line and see what it’s like to be in the tree tops at night like Katniss and Rue.  Sunday – you’ll convene for your Hunger Games Simulation. See if you and your district have what it takes to win the Hunger Games. Our Hunger Games Simulation will be timed trials of the skills you’ve learned over the weekend.

Ages:  Tours are best suited for children 10 yrs + accompanied by an adult. We welcome family tour groups. Any child under the at the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Night zip-lining requires participants to be 10 yrs +.

Your Hunger Games Weekend includes: three days and two nights stay at Earthshine Mountain Lodge, 6 Hunger Games meals, Hunger Games snacks, guides, all Hunger Games skill training, Night Zip Lining and your Hunger Games Simulation. Shuttle service to and from the Asheville Regional Airport is included.

Assault on the Carolinas Today in Brevard

April 14 The 13th Annual Assault on the Carolinas  starts and ends in downtown Brevard. Last year there were more than 750 riders, and 1,000 riders are already registered for this year.  Many of the downtown businesses will be offering discounts to riders and families.

The Assault on the Carolinas is the annual fundraiser for the Pisgah Forest Rotary Club and offers a 100k, 60k, and 40k rides. The 100k goes through North Carolina and South Carolina mountains and valleys. Fully supported ride with 4 well stocked rest stops, and a challenging 6 mile climb up Ceasar's Head. The 60 and 40k go through the river valleys of Scenic Transylvania County.

St Patrick's Day Events: 2nd Annual St. Patrick's Day Block Party

March 17, 6 PM - 9 PM -  2nd Annual St. Patrick's Day Block Party    Join  the fun in downtown Brevard NC for: a pot of gold treasure hunt, Irish dancers, music, face painting and you-be-the-judge downtown window decorating contest. Downtown restaurants will be offering a variety of Irish taste treats and beverages.

The treasure hunt will include some  surprises -  a green jello-y substance, a blarney stone and tons of fun. Be sure to wear your  Green. A few of the participating merchants include:  The Eclectic Cottage  with raffles and door prizes, plus complimentary Irish refreshments;  The Square Root Restaurant  with Sierra Nevada samples, goodies and other fun surprises;   at Local Color  you can  Enter to Win a $50 gift certificate in their new and improved shop -  Claddagh rings are 25% off, plus other "magical" specials;  Lil Bo-tique ~ St. Paddy's Day themed games and fun for kids!
