The Loons of Lake James Boat Tour

November 12 - The Loons of Lake James Boat Tour Join Park Ranger Earl Weaver on a boat ride to search for the loons that frequent Lake James during the winter months. Discuss how they survive during their winter migration and how they use the

resources at Lake James to help them through the winter.

Participation is limited and passengers must be age 7 and above. Please call the Park Office at (828) 584-7728 for program registration. Meet at the Paddy’s Creek Area office at 2 PM. Lake James is located in Nebo NC, just outside of Marion.

4th of July Event: Watch FIreworks from a boat on Lake Lure

Get the "best seat in the house" for this year's spectacular Lake Lure Fireworks Display. Lake Lure Tours, Inc. is taking reservations for seating on their tour boats to watch the fireworks on the lake Monday, July 4th. Boats will depart at 8pm on Monday, July 4th and will return to the Marina around 10:30pm. Each seat is $25.00 and we will accept reservations up until 6:00pm on the day of the fireworks event.

The Beach at Lake Lure will close at 6:00pm, but will reopen for fireworks at 8:00pm. There will be no swimming once the beach reopens, but there will be concessions available. To make your reservation or get additional information, call (877) 386-4255 or (828) 625-1373.

The Blue Ridge Parkway at 469 miles long is the nation's longest scenic rural parkway. Now 70 years old it is administered by the National Park Service and host to approximately 20 million visits annually. Chimney Rock Park is named for a 500 million-year-old giant granite monolith overlooking Hickory Nut Gorge. The National Scenic Byways Program is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration. The program is a grass-roots collaborative effort established to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads throughout the United States. Since 1992, the National Scenic Byways Program has provided funding for almost 1500 state and nationally designated byway projects in 48 states. The U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes certain roads as All-American Roads or National Scenic Byways based on one or more archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and scenic qualities.

Tsali Recreation Area is an outdoors lover's paradise. Probably the most popular features of Tsali Recreation Area are the 39 miles of trails suited for mountain bikers and horse-back riders, as well as hikers. The 4-loop system offers a variety of landscapes. You can climb 1-foot wide rugged paths or travel flat, well-beaten roads.
