WNC Chef's Challenge 2013

The WNC Chef's Challenge is once again underway in downtown Asheville.  For the fourth year, the WNC Magazine Asheville and Wine and Food Festival will host the WNC Chefs Challenge. The competition brings together culinary leaders from the region in weekly battles built around a secret ingredient.

The Chestnut Restaurant, located Chestnut Restaurant, 48 Biltmore Avenue in  downtown Asheville NC, will serve as host for the dinners each Tuesday from February 12 through April 30. The quarterfinals and semifinals will follow this summer at the Asheville Wine and Food Festival the week of August 22 through 24.

“This year we are proud to announce that the winner of the competition will receive $5,000," said Festival Director Bob Bowles. “This competition has grown to be recognized across the southeast and we are proud to showcase our great culinary heritage from all parts of Western North Carolina. Where else do you get a chance to experience the culinary cunning of chefs from major resorts to local hometown restaurants?”

Diners participating in the competition will enjoy six plated culinary creations (three from each team) that incorporate a secret ingredient. Each diner scores each dish and the votes from the audience and from a panel of professional chefs, journalists, and culinary experts will then be tallied. A winner will be announced at the end of the night and continues to the next round of competition.

Reservations for the WNC Chefs Challenge are $49 per individual, and can be made by calling (828) 225-6944. Beverages, sales tax, and gratuity are not included. A complete schedule is listed online.  Visit www.ashevillewineandfood.com for more information on the competitors including portraits and biographies and to purchase tickets.
